Cycle 2 in Ens: 5 Teams + Jesus = AMAZING TIMESArticle Dated : Tuesday, 15 Jul 2008 13:41
What an awesome week we have been having here at the YWAM base in Ensenada, Mexico! Over a zillion kids (or 100) have left their homes in the US and Canada to spend 10 days here growing closer to God and serving others within the local community. Here is a quick peek into what all God has been doing in Ensenada!
Monday afternoon teams from Washington, Minnesota, New Jersey, Nevada and British Colombia arrived here in Ensenada, found their room assignments and got settled in for a time that would change their lives. Tuesday, after rising bright and early for eggs and potatoes at 7:30am, students gathered in the worship hall for their first speaker session. John Ray is from Arkansas and he has spent the week telling stories from around the world and explaining what it means to live out our summer’s theme; to “do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).
Following the first session, the different teams broke up and played grueling and intense games, including human battleship, taping as many balloons on a person as possible, getting as many people on a folded up tarp as possible, and teammates carrying each other across a “toxic river” on their backs and shoulders! It was a fun day of strategy and team bonding.
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons the students devoted themselves to learning dramas and preparing for their outreach to the local communities. Each team has been assigned to work with a different church, and many have also visited orphanages, rehab centers, and other ministries in the same colonia, or neighborhood, as their church. The students perform dramas, do crafts, and play games with the kids, and also do some painting and construction at times, but most importantly, they share the love of Jesus with those who may not know Him. Sunday each team of students led the main service at their assigned church. Then, in the afternoon, all 5 teams came together, partnering with the full- and part- time staff here at YWAM Ensenada, and hosted a huge family fair in a local park. We had a bounce house, free haircuts, popcorn and cotton candy, a dentist to check the kids’ teeth, a beauty station where little girls could get pampered with hair-dos and manicures, and perhaps most popular amongst the boys, many fierce games of “futbol” and basketball! After the students performed their dramas, one of the local pastors came and shared the gospel. It was a very full afternoon of fun for all ages, community bonding and relationship building, and a great opportunity for dozens of people to hear about Jesus all at once!
On behalf of the staff of YWAM Ensenada and the people of Mexico thank you for coming and serving.
