Javier and Anastasia are originally from Oaxaca who, like many other families, who move North in search of a better life and better opportunities- for work, education and healthcare specifically.  This young couple have two small children, Angel Javier and Ana Maria. Javier works in the fields planting different types of vegetables, working 5 or 6 days of the week from 6am until 2pm. His salary is around $58 a week, insufficient to cover all their expenses. The zone where they live doesn't have running water and that is an added expense. Javier's salary has to cover their food, water, clothing, land payments, and any emergency. They have lived in Ensenada for more than 3 years. The first year they rented until they were able to buy land on credit and start building a small structure to move into. Their current living conditions are very difficult because they have to eat and sleep in a small plastic room, making sure their kids do not get sick. Their desire is to have a home that is safe and where they can live without any fear of being cold, or dealing with getting wet during the rainy season. They have been praying to God for a house and and their dream is that one day they will.

Family Story:

Niceforo and Rocio are originally from Oaxaca. They moved to Ensenada almost 5 years for work, because good work opportunities are hard to come by in Oaxaca. They have 3 children, but one is married. Their niece Maria lives with them as she has no other family here in Ensenada. Niceforo is dedicated to working as a handyman and Rocio works in the fields. Their house is made out of scarp wood and the roof is covered with a tarp. They want a house to be able to provide a safe home for their daughters who are left home alone when not in school.
