Skateboarding is more than a sport- it's a community, a culture, and an incredible opportunity to build authentic relationships. The Skate Elective is designed for those who want to share the love of Jesus by simply showing up, skating alongside others, and living out the Gospel through everyday life. As you grow deeper in your relationship with God, you'll discover how genuine friendships can become powerful opportunities to bring hope and point people toward Christ.

Throughout the school, you'll have opportunities to engage with the local skate community, build lasting friendships, and learn how consistency, encouragement, and intentional conversations can have an eternal impact. You'll discover that ministry doesn't always happen behind a pulpit—it often begins with a shared passion and a willingness to be present.

Campus Phase

Our DTS starts with a three-month Campus Phase where students discover more about God while surrounded by His beauty in stunning Baja California, Mexico, just south of San Diego.

The core of our DTS is our 6 elective offerings, which you can choose from for a unique opportunity to learn more about your specific passions through God. When you choose the our DTS, you’ll answer God’s call and allow Him to bring real growth and change in you.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, come join others who carry similar passions and are ready to go all in with the Lord. Your day will consist of waking up early to surf, learning more about God’s story and how to share it with others, and afternoons on your board at our local skate park.

Students will live in a close-knit community with one another and encourage one another to grow in their walk with the Lord. There is also time to meet in small groups, and the opportunity to be personally mentored, encouraged, and discipled by our YWAM staff.

THE Outreach PHASE

Once the Campus Phase is complete, take what you learned into immediate real-world practice in the Outreach Phase.

During this 8-week mission trip, you’ll travel to an overseas destination to apply the concepts you learned during the Campus Phase and use your mission talents to communicate God’s love and serve communities untouched by his story.

Our outreach activities will include home building, feeding the houseless, ministering to orphans, and praying over red-light districts. All of this will happen as you use your passion to bring Him glory.

As you dive deeper into a vibrant relationship with God, you’ll be challenged to be a light to others in every community.

Possible outreach locations include Southern Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Cost OF THE DTS

The cost of YWAM San Diego/Baja’s Campus Phase is $3,995, which includes tuition, food, housing, and learning materials. We do offer partial scholarships for students from Latin America.

The cost of the Outreach Phase can vary depending on the destination and the airfare, but lodging, food, and transportation for the 2-month trip typically cost between $4,000 - $4,500.

How does skating fit into discipleship?

Christian skaters have a unique opportunity to connect new communities to Jesus. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”

Your passion and talent for skating is God-given. When you take the time to deepen your relationship with Him and strengthen your faith, you’re putting your trust in Him. As a result, He will effectively work through you to use your skills to grow His kingdom.
