The Tamarisk
God made Abraham a promise, one that reached far beyond his own lifetime. In response, Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in a land he did not yet inhabit.
"Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God." Genesis 21:33
It's a tree that takes time and intentional care to establish in the desert, but eventually its roots grow deep and its branches provide life-saving shade. Abraham was planting something for those who would come after him, for generations he would never know.
It was a simple act of faith in the future God had promised.
