Hello, my name is Rocio and I’m 35 years old. My family is originally from Sonora but we’ve been in Tijuana a long time now. About 6 years ago we began paying for a piece of land with the hope of one day building a home there. But because of many life circumstances and a lack of economic resources, we have not been able to advance with that dream. I’d like to tell you a little about my family. I’m a single mom to two beautiful children, Axel (10) and Yasmín (12). My kids are my everything! I separated from my kid’s father because he is a very violent person. It was better for us to start all over again but in peace, then to live through the same cycle of abuse I lived through as a child. My mom has helped me and we are pushing forward together, putting the kids first. In our home lives my two children, my mom, myself, and also my niece and nephew. My mom is handicapped and uses a walker and wheelchair to get around. The mother of my niece and nephew was also living with us but over two years ago she left and we have never heard from her since. We suspect she was killed by her ex-husband. Now I consider her two children my own and help care for them because I know she would do that for me.
