LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope team, I was born in the town of Barra in Suchiate, Chiapas. My mother, Socorro, had eleven children, and my father left when I was seven years old in search of a better future for his family. At the age of eleven, I began working on a banana plantation while I was still in fifth grade, because I saw that my mother didn’t have enough to feed us all. Five of my siblings went their own way, and only a few of us remained at home. When I was 16, I met the father of my oldest daughter, but our relationship could not continue due to constant interference from his family. We were both teenagers and didn’t understand life very well. When we separated, I was already pregnant with my second daughter, although I didn’t know it at the time. To this day, I have not heard from him again. At 20, I tried to rebuild my life and had my third daughter, but the relationship ended because of infidelity. I returned to live with my mother, who helps me take care of my daughters since I must keep working. One of my sisters was already working in Tijuana, so we decided to move there to start over. Thankfully, I was able to finish both elementary and middle school. My oldest daughter was burned with hot oil when she was nine years old, and she continues receiving treatment at the IMSS, as the burns still cause her pain. My sister and I bought a plot of land, and our biggest dream is to have a decent roof over our family’s head, stop paying rent, and live with a bit more ease. I humbly ask for your support with all my heart.
