LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope team, my name is Beatriz, I am from Puebla, and I am a single mother of two daughters. I arrived in Tijuana nine years ago in search of a better life—at that time, my eldest daughter was six years old. Later, I met a young man and we moved in together; he helped care for my daughter while I worked. During that time, I became pregnant, and we also started taking Ana Luisa to the doctor because she wasn’t speaking or understanding us. We were referred to CRIT, where she was diagnosed with an intellectual disability and was recommended for speech therapy. When Arisbeth was born and the COVID pandemic hit, the general hospital stopped providing her care. Around that same time, I received the heartbreaking news that my mother had passed away. I was devastated—without a mother, having never met my father, and now fully responsible for my daughters as my partner decided to leave us. I couldn’t find work due to the pandemic, so I began selling our furniture. Later, I moved in with a friend and started selling food, then found a job as a nanny while a neighbor helped watch my daughters. Unfortunately, problems with my friend forced me to leave, but thankfully another kind neighbor took us in and even helped me find a job cleaning houses. Sadly, COVID left me with lung issues and anemia, so I get sick frequently. Eventually, I had to leave that home too and ended up in an unsafe place for my daughters. Tired of moving constantly, I made a promise to myself to buy a plot of land and finally did, thank God. However, due to my daughter’s school situation, I had to stop working again, and things went downhill financially. I began selling food, and my sister later moved in with us and helps with half the rent, though it's not a long-term solution since she may marry soon. I now have a stable job, the pay is low, but my employer allows me to leave early to pick up my daughter and in return gives us food, groceries, or clothes. For all these reasons, I haven’t been able to build even a small room for us, so we can live in peace. I truly thank you for your attention and hope that I may receive the blessing of a home for my daughters and me.
