LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
My name is Lorena Calasich Torres, and I am requesting support for housing because I currently do not have a proper place to live. I am originally from Villahermosa, Tabasco, in southern Mexico, and I came here searching for a better future for myself and my three children. I couldn’t bring them with me because I didn’t have a place to care for them, and I didn’t want to put them at risk. There are very few well-paying jobs back home. I was fortunate to find work here, and someone offered me a place to stay, which has allowed me to send money to my children. I even purchased a plot of land, hoping to bring them here soon. I entered into a relationship with someone I believed would support me, but he was unfaithful, and I became pregnant. I was hospitalized twice due to the risk of miscarriage, but thankfully, both my baby and I are doing well. I continue working and am once again on my own. I now live with my mother and brother in a small wooden room with no flooring, which is not suitable for my baby. I do not have the financial means to build even a basic wooden home, so any support you can offer would be deeply appreciated.
