LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
My name is Estela Marín Martínez. I am 40 years old and was born in Guerrero, a state located in southern Mexico. In 2006, I moved to Rosarito, Baja California, where I met the father of my children at my first job. In 2008, my first daughter was born, and I left my job to care for her. In 2010, my son was born, and two years later, my youngest daughter arrived. During this time, I devoted myself entirely to raising my children. However, in January 2019, our lives changed drastically when the father of my children abandoned us to start another family. He left us completely alone, without any financial support. We did not hear from him for two years. That same year, I had to find work to support my children and myself. While I worked, a friend took care of my children and helped take them to school. Later, this friend and her partner offered us a place to live — a small room they built on their property. I took the opportunity and worked hard to secure a loan for the down payment on a piece of land. I have now been the owner of my land for four years. Some time ago, the father of my children reestablished contact with us and currently provides financial support. On March 21, 2024, with the help of my friend and her partner, I was able to build a small room on my land and move there with my children. Everything was going well until a month ago, when I was informed that the company I worked for had gone bankrupt, and all employees were laid off. I have been unemployed since January 22 and have been actively searching for new employment without success. With my severance pay, I was able to make four payments on my land and purchase groceries. We are currently living with the financial support we receive from the children's father, which we use for food and other basic needs.
