LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

My name is Ángel Daniel Bautista Salazar. I’m originally from Veracruz, in southern Mexico, and I’ve been living in Tijuana for the past eight years. I came here hoping for a better life. In Tijuana, I met the mother of my children. We were together for a few years before deciding to separate. We have two sons: Ángel Mateo Bautista Espinoza, who is 6, and Matías Emiliano Bautista Espinoza, who is 3. I currently live with my father and his wife, who have been renting their apartment for many years. I moved in with them after the separation. They have been a great help, especially with taking care of my children while I work. My father loves his grandsons deeply, and they adore him. Last year, I made the decision to begin making monthly payments on a piece of land, hoping to one day build a home for my children. I don’t want them to grow up renting like I did. We never had a house of our own growing up; we always rented. I pray every day to become a better person, a better son, and most of all, a better father. Life hasn’t been easy for me. I had to drop out of school and start working in the fields at a very young age. Now, all I want is to give my sons a chance at a good life, where they can study and grow up to be honest men. I worked for eight years at a company, but last year I was laid off due to a drop in production. I used the severance money to continue paying for the land, rent, school, food, diapers, and other necessities for my children. I also sent money to my mother in Veracruz, who is ill and unable to work. I’m reaching out to ask for your help because I don’t have the means to build a home for my children. I was unemployed for four months, and it was very difficult to find a stable job. Many positions were temporary or had rotating shifts. But I never gave up, and thankfully, I was recently hired for a permanent job with a stable schedule from Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. I registered on your online page in March last year, after a coworker told me about the amazing work you do. At first, my application didn’t appear, but recently I received a call from you, and it brought us so much hope. I told my sons that you might be able to help us, and they were so excited about the idea of having a home where they can play freely and have more space. Another reason I’m requesting your help is that the owner of the apartment we live in told my father that only two people are allowed to stay there, and gave us until last month to move out or reduce the number of people. We’ve been searching, but most places don’t accept children, or the rent is too high, or they’re too far from my job and my son’s school. We truly need your help. My children deserve a safe, happy place to grow up in. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible work you do. We send you a warm hug with all our gratitude.
