LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope team, my family is made up of my 13-year-old daughter, my 75-year-old disabled mother, and myself. We are originally from a small town in the mountains of Chiapas. I earn a living selling items at the local swap meet in our neighborhood. We moved to Tijuana searching for better opportunities because I suffered physical and psychological abuse from my daughter’s father, who was very controlling and machista. That is why I decided to flee from him. We left in secret and began a peaceful new life here. When my father passed away, I brought my mother to live with us. She helps me care for my daughter, although her health has become more complicated due to diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and the fact that she has now lost her eyesight. We try to stay positive and continue moving forward together as the three of us. I used to work in a factory, but when my mother’s health worsened, I resigned, and with my severance pay I invested in purchasing a piece of land with the dream of having something of our own and no longer paying rent. Sadly, I later developed fibromyalgia, which led to rheumatoid arthritis, making work very difficult. My doctor advised me to avoid stress, so I decided to take a trip to Chiapas for a short break. It turned out to be my worst mistake. My daughter met her father there, and his family told her that he had rejected her because she was a girl and he had wanted a son. She confronted him about abandoning her, and the disappointment affected her deeply. She began struggling with depression, anxiety, and rebellion. Now I must pay for specialists because the public hospital was unable to help her, and the medications are very expensive. Because of all these circumstances, I have not been able to save enough to build our little home. That is why I decided to reach out to you. You have given me a ray of hope, and I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read my story.
