LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope, I am originally from Ometepec, Guerrero, and I am the mother of two children. I had my first son when I was 16 years old, and his father chose not to take responsibility for him. Because I wanted my son to have a better life, I made the difficult decision to leave him in the care of my parents while I moved to the city in search of work. I spent seven years working as a factory cleaner, but despite my hard work, the income was not enough to improve our situation. Later, I returned to my hometown and eventually moved to Tijuana in search of better opportunities. It was here that I met my husband, and together we began building our future. We currently rent a single room, and after much sacrifice we were able to save enough for the down payment on a small piece of land, hoping to build our own home one day. Unfortunately, our plans changed when our son was born in November with a heart condition that required hospitalization shortly after birth. He continues to receive medical treatment and attend regular specialist appointments, creating a significant financial burden for our family. We never expected our baby to be born with serious health challenges, and most of our limited resources have been dedicated to his care. In addition, the rising cost of construction materials has made it increasingly difficult for us to build a home. Our greatest wish is to provide our children with a safe, stable, and dignified place to live where they can grow up with a better quality of life.
