LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope, I began working and studying at the age of 14 because my family had limited financial resources, and it was difficult to afford the educational expenses for all of us. From a very young age, I became independent so that I could continue my education and move forward on my own. At 16, I became pregnant, but I continued both working and studying. By the age of 17, I was a single mother, and only five months later, my parents separated. My younger brother did not want to leave with my mother, so I also took on the responsibility of caring for him. During that time, my father became depressed and began drinking, while my older siblings had already started families of their own. I felt practically alone, and my life revolved around working, caring for my baby, and taking care of my younger brother. Some time later, I attended a party where I met Daniel, who is now my husband. From the moment he came into our lives, he cared for us and showed us love. We decided to begin a life together, and my brother went to live with my mother. With my husband's support, I was finally able to finish high school. I wanted to continue my education and attend college, but the option that worked with my schedule required tuition that we could not afford, while the schedule at the public university did not allow me to continue working and caring for my family. Because of this, I dedicated myself to working and providing for my family. Later, my daughter received a scholarship through her school to study English, which was a wonderful opportunity for her. Unfortunately, she lost the scholarship because at that same time we were asked to leave the house we were renting and had to move. As a mother, it has been painful to see the opportunities she has lost because I have not been able to provide her with a stable place to live. Every time a rental agreement ended, we faced the uncertainty of having to find another home. My husband and I have worked together to move forward, and with our savings we were able to purchase a car. Later, we were overjoyed to learn that we were expecting our second daughter. We also began saving toward our dream of owning land, and after nearly five years of hard work and saving, we finally had enough for the down payment on a piece of land. The last time we had to leave a rental home, we could not find another place to live, so I asked my father if he would allow us to temporarily stay in a house he had under construction, which is where we currently live. Little by little, we have worked to improve the roof and walls because, in the beginning, rainwater and cold air would come inside. Despite everything we have been through, we have not lost our faith or our hope that one day we will be able to live in a home of our own on our own land. Our greatest desire is to give our daughters the stability we have worked so hard to achieve and provide them with a better future without constantly worrying about having to move from one place to another.
