LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, my name is Angélica Karina, I am 31 years old and was born in Tijuana, though my parents are originally from Guadalajara. I live in a domestic partnership with Edgar Martínez Cárdenas, who is from Michoacán. We have been together for nearly 12 years and have two beautiful daughters whom we love deeply. Our journey has not been easy—at the beginning, Edgar didn’t have a job or documents, and we lived in my mother’s house with her partner. Due to disagreements, we were often asked to leave. We went through many difficult situations, including living in borrowed homes and surviving on very little income. We had our two daughters, both delivered via cesarean section, and due to Edgar’s undocumented status, we couldn’t register them right away. Over time, Edgar started working at a market, earning just enough for our daily needs, and although it was hard, we stayed united. My father-in-law has been a great support, and with his help, in October 2024 we were able to make a down payment on a piece of land, hoping to stop renting and finally have something of our own. However, it has been very difficult to afford both the land payments and rent, but we continue with faith and determination. We promised our daughters their own room, and it would mean the world to us to fulfill that promise. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for giving us the opportunity to apply for a Casa de Esperanza.
