LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, over 15 years ago we met, and in 2012 we decided to get married in Santa María La Alta, Puebla, our hometown. The following year our son Alex was born. Our community is a semi-arid area and, due to lack of water, the crops in recent years failed, leading us to seek other sources of income working in tomato greenhouses, with exhausting shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., just enough to cover electricity, water, and basic needs. When Alex turned two, my husband Alejandro attempted to cross into the United States, walking six days through the desert; he was detained, returned with no money and with blisters on his feet, and went back to greenhouse work. Later, Alejandro’s brother offered him a job in Tijuana selling brooms, and he moved there, visiting us only once a year. When Alex was six, we traveled to Tijuana to visit him and decided to stay, enrolling him in the elementary school in the Altiplano neighborhood where we rented. One day, we saw a lot for sale and decided to buy it. I, Laura, began working weekends at a medical products company to help with household, food, and school expenses. In September 2023 we lost a baby to miscarriage, and in March 2025 our daughter Ayleen was born. In 2023 we moved to our land and built a wooden house, but during the rainy season water leaks in through the walls and roof; in severe cold we temporarily stay with Alejandro’s brother. We hope for your support to build a dignified home where our children can grow up in better conditions. We place this hope in God’s blessing and yours.
