LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope, my family is originally from Sinaloa, and we have been living in Tijuana for two years after moving due to a lack of work opportunities in our hometown. I came first, and once my sister-in-law lent me a small room, I brought my family, hoping to save enough to buy land and build something of our own. Working as a construction worker, I managed to gather enough for a down payment and some materials, but unfortunately, we were scammed by someone who sold us old and damaged wood. We were only able to build two rooms—a kitchen and a bedroom—and laid down planks on the floor to keep animals out. Sadly, while living there, my son was burned when hot food spilled on his little body. A foundation took him to the U.S. for treatment, where he stayed with my wife for two months. During that time, our neighbors made a collection to help us divide the spaces, so the child couldn’t reach the stove. I am the only one working, and my income barely covers daycare, land payments, diapers, and some food. Sometimes, I can’t afford transportation and have to walk. My wife and I dream of having a proper home—without leaks, mold, or puddles under the bed—where our children can grow up safe, play freely, and live joyfully. We would be so grateful for your support.
