LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope team, my husband and I came to Tijuana in search of a better life. We arrived in May 2021, and I found a job taking care of children. This family rented us a room, but everyone kept telling me they were paying me too little. I talked to the lady I worked for, and she got upset. That’s when the problems started — they began treating us badly, especially my daughter, who was constantly bothered by her children. When I asked them not to pick on her because she was just a small child, they yelled at us and told us to leave, while the woman just laughed and said it was her house and they could do whatever they wanted. Later, someone we knew told us about land for sale, and we got a plot. It was a very difficult time because we could barely afford the payments on the land and the loan we had taken out for the down payment. Then, my father needed heart surgery and asked all of us to come see him, so our little money went to plane tickets. I spent three months in Puebla, but had to return because my husband had an accident. I had to borrow money again. Thankfully, I found another job, and we’ve been working hard to repay the debts. We’re still renting a shared house, which is difficult because the other people have loud parties, play video games late at night, and we can’t rest properly. My daughter dreams of living somewhere else, but we don’t have the money to build on our land. My mother-in-law, who has diabetes, has also come to live with us, so now my husband sleeps at the construction site so his mother and I can share the bed, and my daughter continues sleeping on a mat. That’s why we are reaching out to you — we are asking for a house, a safe, stable, and peaceful place where we can live alone as a family. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your time and consideration.
