LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope, I am originally from the state of Michoacán. Several years ago, my entire family—my parents, my siblings, my children, and I—decided to move to Tijuana in hopes of improving our situation and finding better opportunities. When we arrived, I began working at a tortilla shop, but getting to work at four in the morning was very difficult because of transportation. For this reason, I decided to pursue another option and began studying to become a beautician. During that time, I met the man who became my partner, and later my second son, Rubén, was born. Because of my new responsibilities as a mother, I was unable to finish my studies. Later, I became pregnant again and my third son, Adriel, was born. Sadly, not long afterward, problems began in my relationship, and eventually my partner decided to leave us. Faced with this situation, I returned to live with my mother. She supported me by caring for my children while I worked to provide for our needs and continue moving forward. There were many of us living in my mother's home: my four siblings, my three children, and me. Although I was deeply grateful to have a place to live and to have my mother's support, I knew that my children and I needed to work toward having stability of our own. That is why I began saving money with the goal of purchasing a piece of land for my children. With a great deal of effort, I was able to begin making payments on our land. At this time, my income is enough to cover the monthly land payments and our food, but it does not leave enough for me to begin building a house. As a mother, my greatest desire is to see all of my efforts one day become a home for my three children. I want them to have a place of their own where they can play, do their homework, and grow up feeling safe, knowing that they belong there and can create their own memories in that home. I am very grateful for the opportunity you have given me to share our story and to move closer to the possibility of having a home for my children.
