LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope, the three of us currently live in a small wooden room measuring approximately 3 by 3 meters, with a plywood and tarp roof, which my mother-in-law allows us to use on her property. The space is also used by the family for storage, so our living conditions are very limited. We do not have our own bathroom or kitchen, and to enter our room, we have to pass through my in-laws' home. Our story began when I became pregnant at 18 years old. It was a high-risk pregnancy, so I remained with my parents during that time. Just one month after my baby was born, my father was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. His illness progressed to the point that he lost mobility on one side of his body. I have a visual disability, and because of my situation, my mother preferred that I not work. During that period, I dedicated myself to caring for both my baby and my father. My father passed away in March 2023, and his death deeply affected my mother, who fell into depression. I stayed by her side and supported her until one of my brothers returned to live with her and help care for her. It was then that I decided to build a family with my son's father. My husband works as a fisherman, and his income is currently our family's only source of financial support. Expenses such as electricity, water, and gas are shared with his family on the property. In 2024, after much effort, we were able to purchase a piece of land with the hope of creating something lasting for our son. However, we have not yet had the financial resources to begin building. When my mother-in-law learned that we had purchased land, problems arose between us, and we nearly had to leave the small room where we currently live. My husband spoke with her, and we were ultimately allowed to stay, although living together continues to be difficult. My greatest concern is my son's health. He frequently experiences throat problems and becomes sick often. At times, I need to give him nebulizer treatments, and we worry that the cold conditions in our small wooden room contribute to his discomfort. A significant portion of our income goes toward his medications and care, making it even more difficult for us to save enough to build. After caring for my father throughout his illness and now dedicating myself to my son's well-being, I have learned how much it means to have a suitable place to care for the people we love. Our land represents the possibility of giving our son that place: a home of our own where we can care for him, protect him from the cold, and live together as a family with greater peace and independence. For this reason, we come to you with hope and sincerely appreciate the time you have taken to learn about our situation. May God bless the work you do for families.
