LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope team, our story began in August 2016 when, due to political problems, we moved to Tijuana from the south, seeking peace. A high school friend opened her home to us while I looked for a place for my family. The following week, I enrolled my children in school, which I found quickly thanks to their good grades. Soon after, my son got hepatitis, and the doctor recommended rest, so I had to quit my job. I moved in with another friend who was also struggling with rent—we slept in the living room, and I would cry silently, wondering why life had dealt me this hand. I started working the night shift at NIPRO and rented a small room so I could care for my kids. Since then, we’ve moved around a lot, always renting, either because we were asked to leave or to be closer to work. In 2020, I got news that my grandfather—who was like a father to me—had passed away, so I saved up and we went to visit family. When we returned, I had to move and change jobs again. This cycle continued until 2022 when I met my partner; it began with a nice friendship. I told him I couldn’t go out much because my money was already committed—I had a goal of buying land. In March 2024, we decided to live together and built a small shack on the plot we were offered. They let us pay the down payment in installments. After moving in, a neighbor told us about your organization, and here we are—grateful to God for allowing us this opportunity. We are determined to finally have something of our own and stop moving from place to place like we used to.
