LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I send you a cordial greeting and respectfully share a little of our story, which has been difficult and complicated. When I was 14 years old, my mother arranged for me to marry an older man, as it was the custom in our town. I did not understand what was happening and endured humiliation and abuse, but when my first daughter was born, I no longer felt so alone. The mistreatment continued, and by the time my second daughter was born, I was already an adult and understood more clearly what was happening. I gathered the courage to leave because I did not want my daughters to go through the same suffering I had experienced, not knowing at that time that I was already pregnant with my third daughter. I arrived in Tijuana without even having a place to sleep, but someone kindly opened the doors of their home to me. I found a job and rented a small apartment, and for a while I felt very happy, but some neighbors tried to harass my daughters and me, so I had to leave and look for another place to live. It was very difficult because rent is expensive, and the person who was caring for my daughters mistreated them; my oldest daughter ended up with a broken femur, and the doctor said it was unusual for that bone to break in that way. She would not speak about what happened and only cried. Because of this, I left my factory job and began working independently so I could care for my daughters myself. My greatest dream is to have a safe and stable place for us to live. It took me three years to save enough for the down payment on our land, and although we are moving forward little by little toward that dream, we are currently living in an apartment that turned out to be rented to us by someone who was not the actual owner, so now that the real owners have returned, we must leave. God is good, and we believe He placed you in our path at just the right moment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
