LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am originally from Guerrero and have been living in Rosarito for three years. I met my partner through Facebook. At that time, I was coming out of a failed relationship and had a three-year-old daughter. In the beginning, everything felt wonderful—he seemed like the perfect man, so we decided to move in together. We stayed at his mother’s house, but suddenly he began to change. He became very jealous, checking my phone and even my clothes. Later, I found drugs in his clothing. He told me they belonged to a friend and that he was just holding them for him, but eventually I discovered that he was using crystal meth. When I confronted him about lying, he admitted it and said he used drugs because he felt sad about not being able to see his son, who lives in the United States. As time passed, his jealousy became worse, and at night he would not let me sleep because of constant accusations and arguments, claiming I was seeing other men. I became afraid and decided to leave him and move in with my parents. Almost every day he would call me to insult me and make me feel terrible. Thank God, his family eventually admitted him into a rehabilitation center, and afterward he contacted me again, but this time he was different. We stayed in touch, trying to rebuild our relationship, and we decided to give each other a second chance. We have now been together for three years, and he has remained drug-free. We currently live in a small trailer that his employer lends him because rent is very expensive. The difficult part is that he is the only one working. He starts at 6 a.m. and often has no set time to finish, even working Sundays, because he feels obligated since they are allowing us to stay there. Thank God, we were able to purchase a piece of land and have already started building a small room. We hope to move there soon so our children can have a place to play. Having a home of our own would truly be a blessing.
