Hello and God bless you, my name is Catalina. I have now been in Tijuana for 5 years but came from the state of Guerrero. I’m a single mom to two kids, my daughter in law also lives with me and my grand baby. We are now living with my aunt. I was able to save enough money to put a down payment on a piece of land but I don’t have enough to build a home. I would love to be able to give my family a beautiful place to live. Where are living right now isn’t very stable- the wind and rain have knocked down the structure two times. Through all my suffering, I have come to know God and He strengthens me. I pray you read my story and are able to help my family and I with a home. May God bless you greatly.

Salary Weekly: $90US

Israel - 11 years old

Dylan - 9 years old

Victoria - 1 years old

Letter from the family:

Hello, my name is Gaby Escamilla. I write this letter to you confirming the needs that my family has. I’m a single mom to three children, 2 boys and a girl. I work as a waitress in a secondhand market and also at a factory in Tijuana. My life revolves around my children; making sure they get to school, that they have what they need in our home, taking care of my baby. I separated from my youngest child’s father 6 months ago and it’s caused me great emotional distress and insecurity. Our living situation is not great and my finances are very unstable. Sometimes I receive help from the dads of my kids- but sometimes nothing. Everything is so expensive and it’s hard to make ends meet and pay all my bills. Due to my income, I haven’t been able to build a home for our family on my own. Our home is falling apart and is so cold and wet on the inside. My baby is sick all the time. I think a home of our own will bring health and safety to my children. Thank you for your time, blessings.

Good day, the reason my family and I are reaching out to you for support is because we are going through a very hard time. My family and I tried to build a small wooden structure for us to live in on our property but it was destroyed in a storm. A family member is currently letting us borrow a small trailer to live in until we can figure something else out. We really pray you are able to help us with a home- it would move us forward greatly. Even if we got a home, we would still keep working the hardest that we can to push forward in life and give our daughter everything she deserves. We won’t give up because we know God is on our side. Thank you for your time and attention- May God bless you.

Once we arrived in Tijuana, everything started to change and my ex-husband began abusing me and our children and also became involved in drugs. We had been living with my sister because we had nowhere else to go but she left and we became homeless. A friend loaned me a bit of money to put a down payment on a piece of land- we then built a very small one there. The 5 of us have been living there and it’s very small. If you helped our family, we would be so grateful. When it rains, we all get wet- if you built us a home, we would feel so safe. I’m leaving everything in God’s hands and trusting Him. Thank you.

Many told us that moving to Tijuana would bring us a better life with a well paying job. My husband decided to come to Tijuana first to look for work and find somewhere for us to live as a family. We now have been living in Tijuana together for 4 years. We made friends with a very kind woman who loaned us money to buy a piece of land and now we are paying her back. I can’t work as my daughters are small and need me. I also have my little sister who has lived with us since she was 5 years old when our mom passed away. My husband works very hard to support the 6 of us. When we found out about Homes of Hope, we were overjoyed! Receiving a home would change our lives forever and we could also pay off our land faster. Cardiac Casa - Rogriguez Leal (Green Team)

Date Build: Fri3 - Sat4 March 2023

FAMILY INFORMATION:

MOTHER: Elda

Age: 34 years old

Profession: street vendor at the border

Salary Weekly: $70US

CHILDREN

Name: Karen - Age: 7 years old

Name: Magali - Age: 14 years old

Letter from the family:

My name is Elda and I’m a single mother of two girls. I’m from a small village in Guerrero and speak the Mixteco dialect, it’s a little harder to speak in Spanish for me. I got married in 2007, a year later we had our first daughter and moved to Tijuana in 2010 since there was no work in our village and we didn’t have money to buy diapers. My husbands brother let us stay in a room in his house. My husband and I started working and after a while I became pregnant with our second daughter. With four mouths to feed, we were struggling financially again. I worked Monday through Friday and sometimes even the weekends to pay for food, water and electricity. After having my first daughter I started having horrible headaches (migraines). Once the headache starts, I have to lay down in a darks and quiet room until the pain goes away. Through the years the headaches have become worse and I have to be careful to not lift heavy things or spend to much time in the sun. I’ve been having migraines for 14 years now but I try to be strong for my girls since I don’t have anyone to help me. Three years ago my husband left us for another woman. He doesn’t support us so I’m left alone to take care of everything. His brother let us stay with him but after a while they started treating us badly and it’s been hard for me and the girls to live there. From the bottom of my heart, I ask you to help us with a home since we don’t have the resources to build our own house. The money I make selling candy in the border line isn’t enough for us to live on and for my girls to go to school. All I ask for is a save home for my family. I thank God for placing you in my life. Thank you so much.
