LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, we are a small family of five, hardworking and eager to move forward. My husband is a mechanic and has worked at a junkyard for several years. I used to sell things at a small stand, but due to rising insecurity in our neighborhood—where they started demanding protection fees—I had to shut it down out of fear for our safety. Later, my husband did a construction job that led to a dispute with a client who felt he charged too much. She hired people to threaten us, and even after we returned the money she demanded, we kept living in fear. We decided to leave that area, sold everything we had—including our car—to afford the down payment on a plot of land. This past year has been extremely difficult; we were left with nothing. My son Eduardo was so affected that his grades dropped and he was removed from school; he is now studying through an open secondary school program. Our dream is to get away from this dangerous environment—we don’t want our children growing up around such evil. Now our son goes to the junkyard with his father, and we hope he can study automotive electronics. We’ve tried to save money to build but haven’t succeeded. We started something near my mother-in-law’s house, but when it rains, the water gets in and the machine can’t enter to level the land. When I saw on Facebook that you help families, I filled out the form thinking it would be hard for you to notice us, but when you called, I felt overwhelming joy—a ray of hope to finally leave this place behind. Thank you for seeing us.
