LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope, in 2022, our family went through one of the most difficult experiences of our lives. A landslide occurred in the neighborhood where we had lived and grown up for many years, affecting more than 100 homes, including ours. From one moment to the next, we lost the place we had called home for so long. After the landslide, we were promised government assistance; however, the support we currently receive only helps us cover the monthly payment on our land. Rebuilding has been very difficult because, at the same time, we have to pay rent and cover all of our family's other expenses. Since then, we have had to rent in different places without being able to regain the stability we once had. At times, we have been asked to move out with very little notice, making our living situation feel temporary. What concerns us most is our daughter, who is growing up without a permanent place to call home or enough space for her activities. We often remember what our life was like before the landslide, when we had our own home and the peace of knowing that we belonged somewhere. Our daughter does not have my last name because when I met my husband, he was already a single father. Her biological mother left when she was one year and two months old, and they have not heard from her since. I met our daughter when she was seven years old, and from that moment on, I have done my best to be a mother figure in her life, caring for her, supporting her, and loving her as part of my own life. After experiencing what it means to lose a home, my greatest desire is for our daughter to once again experience the security of having a place of her own. We dream of a house where she can grow up peacefully, have enough room for her activities, and, above all, know that we will not have to pack our belongings and move again. I have followed your page, and I am deeply touched by the work you do for so many families. For us, receiving a house would not mean discovering for the first time what it feels like to have a home; it would mean recovering something we once had and lost: stability, security, and the peace of knowing that we can finally stay. Thank you very much for taking a few minutes to read our story and for considering our family.
