Dear Homes of Hope team, we are from Chiapas and have been here in Tijuana for about 10 years. I came seeking opportunities after being severely beaten while pregnant with my daughter, who is now 11 years old—I ended up in the hospital, and that’s why I ran away. I’ve moved from rental to rental, but they would either ask me to leave or raise the rent too much. Finally, someone lent me a tiny 2x2 meter room. Then I was laid off from my job, and with that severance money, I was able to put a down payment on a plot of land and buy some wood. My friends are helping me build a small room, and that’s why I’m seeking the blessing of a home—a dignified and beautiful place for my daughters. I truly hope it becomes possible, because when it rains, everything gets wet, and I cry thinking that I haven’t been able to give my daughters something better.
