LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am the fourth and youngest daughter of a single mother who worked three jobs with great effort to provide for us, and from her I learned the value of sacrifice, strength, and unconditional family love. Growing up, we moved from house to house and I never had a space of my own, sleeping alongside my sisters in the living rooms of my aunts’ homes. My husband also had a difficult childhood; his mother passed away when he was twelve, and from then on he moved between relatives’ homes. Today, together we have formed a beautiful family, which includes my mother who suffers from diabetes, as we want to give her a peaceful place where she can rest and live with dignity while we care for her. As a family, our greatest material dream has been to own a home, understanding that a home is more than just a roof—it represents security, stability, and well-being for those we love most. Sadly, we have experienced deception and fraud; in 2020 we were scammed during a land transfer, and in 2022 a cousin who had been living with us took her own life, leaving us overwhelmed with grief and guilt, and our savings were used to cover funeral expenses. Despite additional hardships and losses, in 2023 another opportunity to purchase land arose, and relatives lent us money, part of which we still owe, encouraging us to build the house first and repay them gradually. Everything we have endured, though painful, has made us stronger and has deepened our appreciation for what it means to have a home. We trust in God and believe that organizations like yours bring hope to families like ours. We are deeply grateful for your noble work and continue forward in faith, working hard and dreaming of the day when we can open the door and say, “This is our home.”
