LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:
Dear Homes of Hope team, I am a single mother of a three-year-old daughter, and I have been living with my paternal grandmother for about two years. I was born in Tijuana; one of my brothers was killed seven years ago, and another is currently in prison. My parents separated because my father struggled with drug addiction, and during that time we stopped going to church, which led me to blame God for everything, although later I came to understand that this is not how God works. Some time later, my mother met someone else and we moved into his home, where I met the father of my daughter. When I told him I was pregnant, he refused to take responsibility and wanted me to have an abortion, but I chose not to. Just days before giving birth, my stepfather forced me out of the house, and my mother did not help me, so an aunt allowed me to stay with her. Shortly after my daughter was born, I rented a small room so I would not have to depend on others. About a year later, my grandmother began having problems with my grandfather, and since I needed someone to help care for my daughter so I could continue working, we moved in together. I later changed jobs to work at a gas station, and little by little we saved for the down payment on a piece of land. At that time, my father was doing better and helped me build a small room. We are grateful to have something of our own, to no longer pay rent, and to provide stability for my daughter, but we have not been able to build a proper home. Thank you for this opportunity.
