LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am a single mother of two wonderful children. I was born in the state of Guerrero; my parents are illiterate, but they made sure my siblings and I received an education. After finishing high school, I decided not to continue studying so I could help with household expenses, as my father had a small shaved ice business, but because it rains a lot there, he sometimes went days without being able to work. Later, my older sister moved to Baja California, and once she was settled, she encouraged me to come as well. It was painful to leave my home, even though I had experienced a childhood marked by physical and emotional violence that left deep scars. I arrived at age 14 to live with an aunt, but her trailer was very small, so my sister and I moved out to rent and also to support our family back in the south. At one of my jobs, I met Miguel, who became the father of my children. I stayed with him for years despite experiencing hardship, hunger, and mistreatment, which I believe was due to the trauma from my childhood. He did not work and became addicted to drugs, while I covered all household expenses and continued supporting my family in Guerrero. His family convinced us to move into a room at their home to avoid paying rent, but later Miguel left rehab, became involved with another woman, and forced me out while I was pregnant and caring for my young child. By God’s grace, a family took me in and supported me. I began selling food and drinks, and during that time I made a promise to myself to achieve my goals—to have a home for my children and a job that would allow me to be close to them, even if we did not have luxuries. Little by little, I have been rebuilding my life. I filed a legal case against Miguel, and now we have shared custody, with him caring for the children on weekends. Through great effort, I was able to save for a down payment on land, and with the help of friends, we built a small wooden room with a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. We live in a tight space, but in peace. I kindly ask for your support to help us have a home where my children can have more space and we can continue living in peace. I place everything in God’s hands. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
