Hello, my name is Reyna. I would like to tell you a little about myself and my family too. My family moved to Rosarito when I was a little girl, my mom was a single mom to 5 kids and she brought us to Northern Mexico in hope of a better life. I now have a family of my own, I am married and have one son of my own and also a stepson that I love as my own. The mother of my stepson gave him to us to care for. I take care of both boys full time as my husband works. We were able to get a plot of land about 3 years ago that we pay for monthly. We have been living on the land now for 17 months. We built a small structure on our land- the walls are made of wood and the roof is made from tarps. Because of the current state of our home, we really need your help in having something more secure. I want my sons to be able to rest in our home and to have a place to do their homework. They are 5 and 6 years old. They deserve a dignified home but alone, we can’t provide this for them. Thank you for considering our family. God bless you

Letter from the family:

Dear Homes of Hope ministry, we are the Rosendo Andrade family. I'm writing to you to tell a bit of my family's story. My husband and I got together when we were 14 years old and that is also when we had our first child. We were just kids trying to raise a kid! My husband started working and also started drinking heavily. Then we had our next baby. I was a stay at home mom to our two kids. We then had our last baby and that's when things got really bad. I startedhanging out with the wrong crowd and became addicted to strong drugs. I forgot about my kids, forgot about my family while I was using. Things got so bad I started living on the street and finding my food in the garbage. One day, someone approached me on the street and told me about Jesus. Things started to change from that point on. It has not been easy, leaving drugs is never easy. But here I am trying to start all over again with my family, doing things the right way- earning love back from my husband and kids. Thankfully we were able to get a plot of land, right now we are living on the land in a small provisional structure. We just want a dignified place to live as a family. My kids deserve the best, they are amazing kids. I just want to help give a good gift to them. Please, help us if you can. Thank you for reading our story, God bless you!

Letter from the family:

Hello to the Homes of Hope team. My name is Medalig and I would love to share with you a little bit of my family's story and how we came to need your assistance. Over 3 years ago our family decided to move to Rosarito for work and a better way of life. We had so many debts and had to pay them by selling the house where we use to live. We only brought with us some clothes and the hope that God would provide for us once we got here. My sister welcomed us to her home for 5 months but then some problems started to occur. I have 3 sons and my youngest is autistic. Any change for my autistic son is very hard and he started to be very rebellious. He started having compulsive tendencies like over eating, needing to change his clothes all the time, and unfortunately my sister's family could no longer handle it and we had to leave. Thank God we were able to find a small room to rent somewhere else. In the process of everything happening, I am in a deep depression. I feel like everything happening to my family is my fault. My youngest son keeps asking me why we move around all the time. Changes are very hard for him. In the new area where we moved, I started noticing beautiful homes that looked similar- I found out that they are the homes you guys build! A co-worker of my husband shared with us your information because he too had received a home. Please, I ask you to consider us for a home. We would be so grateful. Blessings

We moved without knowing anyone here and without having much. Little by little we saved up money to be able to use as a down payment on a piece of land. It has been a battle to be here, many times we have gone without but we know God is faithful. We have 3 children. Our one son with special needs cannot walk or talk, he can't eat with his mouth either, really he is not able to do anything. Currently we are living in a very small trailer. We are very uncomfortable there. The doorways are very small and it's hard for us to carry our son around the house to use the bathroom. We have been through a lot, times without electricity, times without water. We would really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Letter from the family:

Hello. My name is Maria Celia Gutierrez. First of all, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to apply for a home. I think my request is the same or similar to others in my situation: we dream of having our own house and giving our children a home full of love and joy.

We, my family, which is made up of my husband and my two children, live with my in-laws. We split the expenses, and thank God we already are blessed to pay for our land in order to have something to give our children. But as our situation is getting more and more difficult, we sell tamales and live off of that income. The year 2021 was somewhat difficult for me since I lost my two parents due to Covid 19. I was very disillusioned but had no choice but to move on.

We’ve a floor and a hole for water or sewage on our land because our plans were to build two small rooms so that we could move to live there and no longer pay rent. But due to the illness and death of my parents, we spent our savings. I am the oldest daughter so it was my responsibility to care for the funeral arrangements.

This is why I come asking to begin this year with a new home, and little by little help create a peaceful home. My children are very happy that I have attended your meetings and we have hope that this year we will have our new house, full of love.

I thank you for your big heart and generosity for helping so many people in need. We have been married for 15 years and, like every family, have dreamed of having our own house to no longer pay rent. It has been a burden to pay rent and also make land payments. We thank you for this opportunity. My children and my husband are grateful to God and to you for this new opportunity. God bless you today and always to continue carrying out your great work. God bless you.

It is part of the church in which God has allowed us to minister, and not I have been able to build on my land because I pay the monthly payments for my land, which are very high. With the recent passing of my mother in law and all the bills that came along with it, it has been very hard. My husband is the one who regularly works, I only can on occasion when I have the help of someone who can watch my daughters. We ask for your help in building a home for our family. The place where we currently stay has slowly been falling apart and now, we have leaks all over our roof. Our walls are rotting as well. When it rains, the house fills with water and we can’t be inside, it ruins all of our belongings. We currently have a mouse infestation that we are not able to get rid of. We don’t have a bathroom and have to bathe from buckets. Bathing this way with water constantly falling on the floor has ruined our floors. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, I pray you have an excellent day. May God bless you always.

TIME IN TIJUANA: 2 years

Letter from the family:

My name is Beatriz and my husband’s name is Eduardo. Our family has three beautiful daughters and another one on the way (due to be born any day). My oldest daughter is named Mylee, then Valerie, next Emely, and our future baby is named Elizabeth. In this moment, our family is starting over again from zero. One year ago we moved to Baja California when my husband was deported from the US, he lived there for a very long time. This new was of living has not been easy for any of us. We have faith that our sacrifice to remain together as a family in all the good and bad is the best decision because we are fighting together. Our greatest desire is to give our daughters a better life but that has been very hard because we make so little money. We know God will not leave us. Where we live currently is a very small and humble home, when the weather is bad, we have had to seek better shelter protection. It’s sad for us to see how we have failed our daughters, but knowing that at least we are together adds sweetness to my soul. To bathe, we ask permission to use my husband’s stepfather’s house. We don’t own a lot because we know we could lose everything if it rains or if there are strong winds. Even on the hardest of days, my husband always gets up to go find work. I am a stay at home mom, making sure my daughters have what they need and make it to and from school. We all sleep on the same mattress together, we have no kitchen and eat our meals days by day with nowhere to store food. When we heard about Homes of Hope, an immense joy filled our hearts. We still have hope and even our daughters ask God every day for a home. Thank you for taking the time to hear about our story. Blessings sent to you from our family.

My husband, my 3 children, and our 2 grandchildren live in a single room together. We have tried looking for something bigger but the rent is just too expensive. We decided instead to save money up to use as a down payment for a property. It was very hard to do but we did it. My husband and I are older, our greatest desire is to provide something comfortable and nice to our family- something that we can leave them with some day. Living in a smaller room made of wood has been difficult, sometimes it is so cold. It has been a battle. We haven’t lost our hope to have something nicer and bigger for our family. We just want to feel protected. We really need your help, we do not have the resources on our own to move forward. Our biggest dream is to have a place that no one can take from us, a place where the rain and wind don’t get to us. We want a place where we can spend time together and make memories. First of all, I would like to thank you so much for allowing me to enter the program of Homes of Hope. I’d like to tell you a little bit about my family. We have been living in Tijuana for three years. We are from Mexico city, and my family is made up of my husband, myself, and our three kids whose names are Santiago, Genesis, and Abdiel. My husband’s name is Jesus, and I am Viridiana. Like I mentioned, we have three beautiful children together, but I want to tell you a little bit more about my youngest child, little Abdiel. When he came, he radically changed our lives. He was born march 12th 2019. We were all so happy to meet him, and then I remember the doctor told me, “Ma’am, your son has down syndrome.” I wasn’t expecting it at all. It wasn’t easy either, but we were able to overcome it. A little while after that, we moved to Tijuana, my cousin offered us a job here and we came and have been living in my mother-in-law’s place. However, we really need our own place. We have been working hard and trying to do the best we can for our kids, and thank God we have been able to obtain our own plot of land. However, we have not been able to scrounge up enough money to build anything yet. I am working at night, while my husband works during the day, so that we can take care of our children. He works selling things like hats and glasses, and I work helping family members with small jobs that they need. I have decided to apply and write to you guys because I truly need your help in giving my children a home. I know this application process takes times, and now that I have applied I give this process over to God’s hands. Thank you so much. God bless you always.

Letter from the family:

Brooke Enriquez To whom it concerns, good afternoon! I have been looking for a house to rent because where I was living, I had to leave and I had no where to go with my daughters. I have my own land where I was able to build a small room. We are really crunched for space there and also do not yet have utilities. When we first started moving our things to this small structure, the little that we did have was stolen from us. For now, we just have this one small room and a bathroom. We do all of our activities there. We do everything by candlelight like eating dinner, doing homework, eating breakfast, and getting ready for school. I haven’t been able to make our room bigger or better because two weeks ago I had to leave my job because it was too much between taking care of my kids, studying, and working. I am a single mom and I’ve always had to work to get ahead in life. Right now, the only work I have is being a security guard every other weekend. This only pays enough money to give us food and to pay for school. I have no money left over to put into our house. We have had a lot of difficult and desperate days. We are all together in a small, tight place with our things and no electricity. It’s too much some times. What we most desire is a place of our own. Where my kids can rest, do their homework, eat together, not have to use candles, watch tv, bathe ourselves, and a place where no one can tell us to leave. With all my heart I desire to have a home for my family. I know my daughters would love that. They would love to have their own space and I want to give that to them. Thank you!

FAMILY INFORMATION:

Mother: Magdalena

Age: 49 years old

Profession: Thrift Market

Weekly Salary: $416 USD

CHILDREN

Name: Katherine - Age: 17 years old.

TIME IN TIJUANA: 20 years

Letter from the family:

Our current situation is this, we are renting but really wish to have a home of our own. We have always rented and we just can’t anymore. Thanks to God, I have been able to make our land payment . Within the first year of renting, it rained so bad and caused our home to be full of mold. This has really affected our health poorly, especially my daughter, Katherine, who now suffers from asthma. The owner of the home chose not to fix the roof and opted for putting a tarp over it. The tarp broke and with another rain, all the water went into our home and caused an even bigger mold problem. I work in a swap meet and have to store all my goods inside our small home to protect it which makes our living space even smaller. I pray to God that you will be able to help us have a home of our own. I recently sold my car so that we could start building a bathroom for us. 3 years ago, my daughter asked me if she could have a room of her own, I explained to her that God’s timing is perfect. For now, we will keep renting, until we get a beautiful place of our own. Thank you God, I ask for peace and harmony for every family needing a home. -Magdalena
