Letter from the family:

It was a complicated decision we took to decide to come live in Tijuana, because we didn’t know anyone. We had to make this decision for the well being of our kids and ourselves. We want to give them a better future. We suffered many economic hardships and the lack of heat from a home. We didn’t want to repeat these same patterns for our kids. We want to be able to give our kids what we didn’t have. So my husband had to take the first step and he came here alone with a little bit of money to be able to eat for two days. Thank God he found some people who gave him a place to sleep for a couple of days. Thank God he found a job but like many people right now struggling to find a place to rent. (Also it is very expensive). He eventually found a place to rent and he started saving to be able to bring us to Tijuana. After a few months we were asked to give the house back. We had to sell many things and even borrowed some money to have the down payment for the land where we are actually living. Because I am a diabetic mom I have not been able to find a job in any factory. It is very frustrating to not be able to help my husband economically and to complement this we don’t have the financial resources to send our youngest son to preschool. We also don’t have anyone that we trust enough to be able to leave him with them. With much sacrifice and work my husband was able to make a small room made of wood. Because we didn’t have money to pay someone to make it he made it with the help of my 14 year old son. It is good to keep us out of the heat of the sun during the day and to sleep in but when it rains it leaks inside. In this little room we cook, eat, sleep and in one of the corners we shower. We always have the faith and hope that this can change. Thank You for your great work, May God bless each one of you.

We got a piece of land and have been working hard to make the payments. My husband is a mason and has been able to find work here, thankfully. We have been having a hard time making ends meet with so many bills, especially our land payment. Our landlord just let us know that they are also upping our rent. My husband is working hard, but it is not easy. I do what I can to contribute to my household so that my husband doesn’t feel so much pressure. My kids always ask me why their daddy can’t take them to the park, I have to tell them that he needs to work a lot to support us. I wish I could help him more but I don’t have anyone to watch my kids so that I can work. I have faith that you’ll be able to help us. Thank you!

If it rains, everything becomes soaked. My daughters are getting sick a lot. There’s no floor in some parts and lots of insects can get in. I feel worried for my family. We would love to be able to give space to my daughter for her homework and to play. We have dreams of having a dining room table we can sit around and talk to each other. I had no where to go until a friend offered me temporary housing with her. Eventually, I also met my partner and we got a piece of land together. We have been saving up and buying building supplies as we are able. We have a bathroom finally and electricity, too. It has been hard work and we have struggled so much. All we have is a small room, we don’t really fit there. I found out that I am pregnant. We want a better place for our children to live but we don’t have the resources to do so. I pray God will send us help, we won’t waste the blessing. We will take very good care of the home. I can even use the home for my work; making pinatas. Thanks for your time, blessings.
