They have a room that they built our of cardboard, wood and tarps. Their land doesn't have electricity or running water, but a neighbor 3 houses down is able to pass water to them when they need it. They have been living on their land now for 10 months. Recently, Epifanio has been unable to work due to his diabetes. He used to work for a ranch doing random labor work, but had to quit because he got very sick. For them to receive a home would be a huge blessing as they have been unable to do so for themselves.

Jaime and Lisbeth have a little 1-year-old girl called Kendra.  This small family has gone through some difficult times.  When they first got married and had Kendra, Jaime was the only one working and they could barely pay their rent. It has been impossible for them to build a proper house on their low income and all the monthly expenses they have with a baby. It’s been especially hard on Lisbeth recently because she has had to leave her young daughter with her mother in law in so that she can go to work and help provide for her family. Jaime has been diagnosed with a cyst in his prostate and needs to have surgery.  Because of this, he has lost a lot of weight and gets sick frequently. But even with all these things going on around them, the family stands firm with the hope that they will be receiving a home.

The room that Nieves and her kids live in is made out of pieces of cardboard covered with tarps to try to keep the kids from getting sick.  They children all sleep on the only bed they have, while Nieves sleeps on the floor.  Their desire is to have a proper home where they could live safe and comfortably as a family.

   Zoila and Ubaldo met each other when they were kids back in Oaxaca where they are both from.  Zoila’s family would have to wash their clothes at Ubaldo’s house because there was a drought in the area where they lived. They fell in love and 2 years ago got married and began a family while there in Oaxaca.  They later decided to move to Ensenada because the economy was very bad back where they lived. Ubaldo started working in the fields and his sister offered his family to stay at her place, but after a while they started having problems and had to move out.  They then rented a room but the owner of the room raised the rent every time they had to pay.  Finally, after they both worked hard, they were able to buy a property with monthly payments.  An engineer friend of theirs helped them out with materials for them to build a room.  Every time that friend could visit, he would, and always tried to help out around as much as he could. Candelina, their youngest daughter, started getting really high body temperature and started to have seizures.  They took her to the pediatrician regularly for over 6 months and their engineer friend was always there helping.  But thanks to God Candelina is fine now.

   Blanca is from Colima and was brought to Ensenada by a woman who promised her and 8 other girls a job at a bar.  When they arrived to Ensenada they found out that the job they were actually getting was in prostitution.  Blanca was 14 years old when this all happened and she tried to go back home but the woman who brought her lied to her telling her she couldn’t leave because she had signed a contract.  So Blanca worked for 2 months saving some money so that she could go back home.  Then a person pretended to help the girls and deceived them into another prostitution job.  After a while Blanca met a man that finally helped her get out of prostitution.  They got together and had 3 kids.  After a while she decided to leave him because he was too aggressive and still working with prostitutes. He still gives her money to support her and the kids, so she used that to buy a property.  Now she’s working at a secondhand store and earns approximately $11.50 a day.  Blanca’s sister died in an accident some time ago and she’s now taking care of her niece.  Her other sister has drug problems so Blanca is also taking care of her nephew. Blanca's mother is also living with them.
