FAMILY INFORMATION

MOTHER: Alicia

Age: 26 years old

Job: saleswoman in a hardware store

Salary weekly: $154

CHILDREN:

Ariel - 10 years old

Omar - 3 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, my name is Alicia, and I am the mother of two beautiful children. First of all, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity and space to share my story, and second, to tell you a little about my journey. I have been a single mother for the past four years. It has been very difficult, but by God’s grace, we have made it through. I used to rent, but it became too expensive for me. We were given the opportunity to acquire a piece of land, hoping to build on it, but the cost of building materials continues to rise. I thank God for my kind neighbors who donated racks and wood, and with that, I built a small room that has sheltered and protected us up until now. As a single mother, my greatest wish is to give my children a dignified home, which is why I reach out to you for help. I have faith that we will one day have a better house, and I leave everything in God’s hands. Thank you for your time, and may God bless you for the beautiful work you do.

Salary weekly: $145 US

CHILDREN:

Cristian - 17 years old

Angel - 10 years old

Allison - 7 years old

Karla - 6 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope, I am a single mother of four children. I was born in Oaxaca and lived for some time in Veracruz, but in 2020 I made the difficult decision to come to Tijuana on my own in search of better job opportunities. I left my children in the care of my mother, and by the end of 2021, I was able to bring both my kids and my mom to live with me. In 2023, thanks to a loan from Fonacot, I paid the down payment for a small piece of land and bought wood. My coworkers also helped me build a modest house so we could stop paying rent. Living in our own place has brought us great joy. While I work, my mother takes care of the children, which gives me peace of mind. However, our home still has a dirt floor, and with my current income, we are only able to cover daily expenses. That is why I come to you with the hope of having a better home built through your program. I sincerely thank you for taking us into consideration.

MOTHER: Veronica

Age: 33 years old

Job: Sells food

Salary weekly: $180

CHILDREN:

Maria Jose - 12 years old

Jose Ignacio - 10 years old

Isela - 5 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I come to you with the hope of requesting your support in obtaining a dignified home. I am a single mother of three children, and my greatest wish is to provide them with a place where they won’t have to suffer from the cold. Unfortunately, the place we currently live in is very cold, and during the rainy season, all of our belongings get wet. I separated from the father of my children due to a situation of verbal and physical abuse brought on by his addictions. I have never received support from him, and since then, I have fought on my own to raise my children. With great effort, I was able to build a small wooden house where we now live; I’m still paying for the materials, but it has allowed me to care for my kids. However, the structure has started to deteriorate, and I no longer have enough income to repair it or to continue stocking the small food stand I rely on to earn a living. I place my faith in God and in you, hoping that this dream of having a safe and dignified home may come true. My children and I would be eternally grateful.

I do not have a steady income, as I make a living by selling homemade frozen treats from my home. My two eldest children contribute financially to help cover our weekly groceries. I humbly ask for your support, as the house we live in is in very poor condition—when it rains, water comes in, and I fear it could collapse someday, as many beams and wooden panels are rotten and unstable. Our bathroom is just a hole in the ground. "Dear Homes of Hope team, due to financial difficulties, my son, my mother, my sister, and I are currently living in a small room lent to us by a kind friend. A year ago, I took out a loan to cover the down payment on a piece of land, with the dream of building a little house — a dream I haven’t been able to make progress on. That is why I humbly come to you, with the hope that you might be able to help us. My sister takes on temporary jobs to pay for her studies, and whenever possible, she helps with food. I am grateful to God for placing you in our path, and I leave everything in His hands — if it is His will, may we be blessed with a home. Despite the challenges, I’ve made all my land payments on time, as well as school and food expenses for my son. I try to work extra hours whenever I can to increase my income. I am deeply thankful for your time and the opportunity to be considered. "

Nicole - 16 years old

Kamila - 4 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Hello, I am a single mother of three daughters. My eldest went to live in Tijuana with her father so she could continue her education, while the two younger ones live with me. Nicole is in high school, and Kamila at her birthday was removed from the IMSS daycare. For now, a kind lady takes care of her while I work. My greatest wish is to have a home of our own, so I no longer have to move my daughters from one place to another. It is very difficult for me to afford the land payment, rent, and daily expenses, as my income is not enough. After work, I cook and sell burritos to help cover what we need, but this leaves me with very little time to spend with my daughters. This situation is starting to affect Kamila, who is becoming defiant and rebellious, and I feel terrible for not being able to be there more for them. That is why I humbly ask for your support, with the hope of being considered. May God bless you.

At home, he helps with cleaning and caring for his siblings, and on weekends he volunteers with maintenance work at the YWAM base. I am Anahí, originally from the state of Guerrero. I was previously married and had my first son, but after separating, I moved back in with my parents. Sadly, my father was kidnapped, and the whole family was in danger, which led me to move to Tijuana. It was here that I met my current husband, with whom I’ve had two more children. I am Juan José. I was raised in the United States, where I was married and had a son who still lives there with his mother. At the age of 37, I was deported due to not having a green card. In Mexico, I met Anahí, and together we have built a new life. We have worked hard cleaning homes and doing maintenance jobs at YWAM. We fight and work side by side as a team, trusting in the Lord, to build a better future for our children.

I write to you to share part of my life and my dreams. At the age of three, I lost my mother and grew up as the oldest of three siblings under the care of my father, who, though responsible, struggled with alcoholism and was unable to provide us with a dignified home. From a young age, I dreamed of giving my siblings a home of our own — a place where we wouldn’t have to move around constantly — but unfortunately, I was unable to fulfill that dream in my home state of Guerrero. In 2021, I moved to Tijuana seeking a better future, but after losing my father, I had to return. In 2023, I came back again following the death of my younger brother. It has been very difficult, but I have stayed strong for my two daughters, who are my reason for living. With great effort, I achieved one of my dreams: owning a piece of land and no longer having to pay rent. We currently live in a wooden house; I lost my job and haven’t been able to continue building, so I now sell food from home. A kind-hearted person told me about you, and that is why I come to you today, full of hope and faith in God. Blessings.

First and foremost, I sincerely thank you for your time. I write to you with the hope of finding support during this time of family hardship. Currently, another family is renting us a trailer that is in poor condition, and we live with the uncertainty of not knowing when we might be asked to leave. We also only have a small stove to cook with. Due to a lack of work orders, we have been placed on unpaid leave, which has made our situation even more difficult. Nevertheless, we trust that blessings will come when we least expect them. I deeply appreciate your time and consideration.
