With much effort, we managed to buy one, and we’ve had it for about a year and a half now. However, about a year and a half ago, our lives changed completely. My son began to get sick — he was vomiting, had headaches, and later started having seizures. We had several tests done, even outside the hospital, to rule out an infection in his brain. A CT scan revealed he had a brain tumor. In October, we were referred to San Diego, where they told us it was malignant —a high-grade diffuse glioma, stage IV— and could not be operated on. Since then, everything has changed. My son is no longer the joyful, playful child he once was, and I am no longer the carefree mother I used to be. We went to Mexicali, where he received chemotherapy. During that time, he couldn’t walk; I had to carry him, bathe him, change him, feed him, and care for him like a baby. He began to forget things and had trouble speaking clearly. Meanwhile, my daughter stayed in Rosarito with her father, and expenses piled up — rent, medicine, and other costs. We eventually moved in with my sister-in-law to pay only half of the rent and utilities. That is why we are asking for your support in helping us have our own space, where my son can rest and receive his treatments in a clean and peaceful environment. It would be a tremendous blessing, as we also need to buy medications that the hospital no longer provides. At the moment, I sell Jafra products by catalog. In May, my son had another CT scan, and unfortunately, the tumor continues to grow. Still, we have faith that he will be healed. I went to a nephrologist, but unfortunately, he didn’t give me proper guidance—he simply told me there was no cure and no medicine that could repair the damage to my kidneys. Since then, I have lived in fear, closing myself off to the possibility that I might not see my child grow up. However, if God calls me to His presence, I am at peace with that, as I am a faithful believer. Recently, I decided to face my illness again and fight each day to move forward. A year and a half ago, I started dialysis, which is very expensive. My husband’s insurance covers part of the cost, but not all of it. He is the sole provider for our household and is responsible for rent, utilities, food, medical tests, and transportation. Currently, I am undergoing hemodialysis because I had peritonitis and the catheter had to be removed. This has been an extremely difficult time for me and my family. We are currently undergoing the transplant protocol, as my condition is now critical. The transplant will take place in Guadalajara, so we must travel there frequently. Dear Homes of Hope team, we are a family of five who moved from Mexico City eight years ago in search of a better life. Since arriving, we have experienced both blessings and hardships. We were able to purchase a plot of land, but our financial situation has not allowed us to build or live there. Through this letter, we want to share our testimony of how God has taken hold of our lives and broken us in order to strengthen our faith. When we arrived in Rosarito, I—Sarai—started attending a Christian church, but my family was not open to it, so I distanced myself again. I became bitter, constantly complaining, tired of the daily routine. That changed in May 2025 when we felt the need to go back to church and began attending Calvary Rosarito. The most beautiful part was that it was my husband who first felt the calling and encouraged us to go. What we didn’t know was that God was preparing us for the trial ahead. On May 21, our daughter Emily began showing signs of infection and was rushed to the ER; on June 10, she was diagnosed with either leukemia or lupus. Our world collapsed, but the following day her diagnosis changed to thrombocytopenic purpura with pneumonia. A week later she was discharged, but sadly relapsed and worsened. Since there were no hospital beds available, they sent her home with only medication. Desperate, we traveled to Mexico City, where she was admitted urgently. During all of this, my husband remained in Rosarito, but he was never alone—the Word of God and our church family supported him, prayed with him, and gave him encouragement. At the hospital, by my daughter's side, I repented for not being thankful—for life, for health, for family time, and for all of God’s goodness. I used to complain about money, not realizing I already had what mattered most. I broke down in that hospital, asking God, “Why me?” And the answer He gave my husband was 1 Peter 4:12–17. I accepted the trial and thanked God for it—for opening my eyes and teaching me to value what truly matters. Emily continues receiving treatment, tests, and checkups. Even though doctors say the illness is now part of her body, I believe God will heal her completely. At this moment, the cost of tests, specialists, and travel to Tijuana has left us financially strained. That’s why we ask, from the bottom of our hearts, for your help in building a home of hope. This is not just a house—it is the dream of our family and the beginning of a home filled with blessings and faith for a better future. Two years ago, we arrived in Tijuana in search of better opportunities, as the place we came from was overwhelmed by crime and drug addiction. That’s why we decided to emigrate with the hope of seeking political asylum in the United States, but we were asked for large sums of money to supposedly help us cross, so we chose instead to find work in Tijuana. By God’s grace, we found a job and were entrusted with a small trailer to live in, located on the property where my husband works. It wasn’t easy, but we had no other place to sleep. With faith, we started cleaning the trailer, which was in very poor condition, and placed cardboard on the floor to sleep. A few months later, a friend advised us to look for a plot of land with affordable payments, and after saving for a year, we were finally able to buy one. We were overjoyed to finally own something, even though we still didn’t know when we might fulfill the dream of having a home. One day I saw your posts on Facebook and felt encouraged to register, putting my faith in God and hoping for your support to help us build our home, so we no longer live with the fear of being asked to leave. I didn’t know I was pregnant until I was five and a half months along, as I was losing weight instead of gaining it. She was born prematurely, weighing just 1.1 kilograms, and spent over a month in intensive care. At six months old, she was referred to the CRIT in Baja California because we noticed one side of her body wasn’t responding properly. These past three years have required my full attention and care, which is why I haven’t been able to work. This situation also affected our marriage—my husband decided to move out, but he continues to support us financially and maintains good communication, visiting our children almost every day. I am currently taking a baking course to be able to work from home and care for my daughter. For all these reasons, I humbly ask for your help in building us a home. Near our land, there is a kindergarten that allows me to take my daughter, which would give me the opportunity to bake cakes and cookies to sell. I have no formal education, and due to my age, finding employment is difficult. I married very young and had four children, but due to the abuse I suffered, I decided to separate and move to Tijuana with my youngest daughter to work and build a better future; the three older children stayed with their father. During all this time, we have been renting, but when an opportunity came up at work, I took out a loan to pay the down payment on a piece of land. Since then, I have been working double shifts to afford the monthly payments on the land, the rent, and our daily expenses.
