LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I would like to share my family’s story and ask for your support in achieving a dignified home for us. I am a single mother of four children and recently became a grandmother. My daughter, the baby’s mother, is also alone, as the father chose not to be involved. She experienced health complications during her pregnancy, and since then, I have taken full responsibility for both of them. My son Josué just started high school, and Ángel is in middle school; my children are my driving force to keep going. Recently, our situation worsened when our landlord raised the rent to more than double, which forced us to look for a new place to live. I haven’t been able to build much—just a floor and a bathroom. The father of my children has never helped us, and he recently became seriously ill and is now disabled, which makes it even more unlikely that he will ever support us. I am originally from Veracruz, and since arriving in Tijuana, I have worked in whatever jobs I could find; currently, I clean houses, although the work is not always steady. Thank God, I’ve been able to continue making payments on our land, and I’m close to finishing. That’s why I turn to you—with all the faith in the world. I am not asking for luxuries, just a decent place where we can live in peace and continue fighting for a better future. I am completely willing to help in any way necessary; I just need a chance. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Thank you for the incredible work you do on behalf of families in need. May God bless you abundantly and multiply all the good you do for others.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, receive warm greetings from our family. I am originally from Michoacán, and about five years ago, I came to Tijuana with my oldest daughter, who is the child of my first partner. He was involved in bad things and would sometimes disappear for weeks, which left me having to find ways to feed my daughter on my own. That’s why I made the decision to move, with the help of my mother. I started working and, with great effort, managed to save enough money to make a down payment on a plot of land that I’m still paying for. I currently live there with my partner, with whom I have a baby. At the moment, I am not working, and my partner is responsible for all expenses. A year and a half ago, we built a small room, but now that there are four of us and my oldest daughter growing up, I would love her to have her own space. Unfortunately, we don’t have the financial means to expand, which is why we are turning to you, hoping to offer our children a place to grow up without worries. Last year, the Santa Ana winds knocked down one of our walls and part of the bathroom, and when it rains, water seeps into our home. I truly hope you can consider our family, as having a house would be a tremendous help for us.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I would like to share a bit of our story with you. We are from Guerrero, from the Costa Chica region. Two years ago, we arrived in Tijuana in search of better opportunities, as the place we came from was overwhelmed by crime and drug addiction. That’s why we decided to emigrate with the hope of seeking political asylum in the United States, but we were asked for large sums of money to supposedly help us cross, so we chose instead to find work in Tijuana. By God’s grace, we found a job and were entrusted with a small trailer to live in, located on the property where my husband works. It wasn’t easy, but we had no other place to sleep. With faith, we started cleaning the trailer, which was in very poor condition, and placed cardboard on the floor to sleep. A few months later, a friend advised us to look for a plot of land with affordable payments, and after saving for a year, we were finally able to buy one. We were overjoyed to finally own something, even though we still didn’t know when we might fulfill the dream of having a home. One day I saw your posts on Facebook and felt encouraged to register, putting my faith in God and hoping for your support to help us build our home, so we no longer live with the fear of being asked to leave. Because of our current situation, my husband is only paid minimum wage, with the excuse that we don’t pay rent. Also, during the day, we usually have to stay inside the trailer because there are workers present on the property. Thank you for giving us hope. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much. May God bless you.

FAMILY INFORMATION

MOTHER: Ariadna

Age: 46 years old

Job: Chef

Salary weekly: $140 US

CHILDREN:

Aitana - 3 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, may God always bless you abundantly. We thank God for your lives and for considering our family for this second step. Our greatest dream began with the first payment on our land more than ten years ago, filled with love and the determination to move forward. However, due to financial struggles, illnesses, and significant losses, our plans were delayed. We have now spent over sixteen years renting without being able to build our home, and it becomes increasingly difficult financially, as we’ve had to take out loans to cover surgeries and medications. My youngest daughter came as a surprise when I was 42 years old, at a time when I was in deep depression—she came as a gift from God and brought joy back into our lives. I didn’t know I was pregnant until I was five and a half months along, as I was losing weight instead of gaining it. She was born prematurely, weighing just 1.1 kilograms, and spent over a month in intensive care. At six months old, she was referred to the CRIT in Baja California because we noticed one side of her body wasn’t responding properly. These past three years have required my full attention and care, which is why I haven’t been able to work. This situation also affected our marriage—my husband decided to move out, but he continues to support us financially and maintains good communication, visiting our children almost every day. I am currently taking a baking course to be able to work from home and care for my daughter. For all these reasons, I humbly ask for your help in building us a home. Near our land, there is a kindergarten that allows me to take my daughter, which would give me the opportunity to bake cakes and cookies to sell. I have no formal education, and due to my age, finding employment is difficult. Thank you for your lives, your dedication, and I pray to God that we may be one of the families blessed with the home we have long dreamed of.

Dear Homes of Hope team,  I write with my heart in my hands to humbly ask for your support in building a dignified home for my daughter and me. I married very young and had four children, but due to the abuse I suffered, I decided to separate and move to Tijuana with my youngest daughter to work and build a better future; the three older children stayed with their father. During all this time, we have been renting, but when an opportunity came up at work, I took out a loan to pay the down payment on a piece of land. Since then, I have been working double shifts to afford the monthly payments on the land, the rent, and our daily expenses. Job: Junkyard Cowboy

Salary weekly: $240 US

CHILDREN:

Antonio - 15 years old

Nahomy - 8 years old

Renata - 3 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, we are a small family of five, hardworking and eager to move forward. My husband is a mechanic and has worked at a junkyard for several years. I used to sell things at a small stand, but due to rising insecurity in our neighborhood—where they started demanding protection fees—I had to shut it down out of fear for our safety. Later, my husband did a construction job that led to a dispute with a client who felt he charged too much. She hired people to threaten us, and even after we returned the money she demanded, we kept living in fear. We decided to leave that area, sold everything we had—including our car—to afford the down payment on a plot of land. This past year has been extremely difficult; we were left with nothing. My son Eduardo was so affected that his grades dropped and he was removed from school; he is now studying through an open secondary school program. Our dream is to get away from this dangerous environment—we don’t want our children growing up around such evil. Now our son goes to the junkyard with his father, and we hope he can study automotive electronics. We’ve tried to save money to build but haven’t succeeded. We started something near my mother-in-law’s house, but when it rains, the water gets in and the machine can’t enter to level the land. When I saw on Facebook that you help families, I filled out the form thinking it would be hard for you to notice us, but when you called, I felt overwhelming joy—a ray of hope to finally leave this place behind. Thank you for seeing us.

Unfortunately, my brother struggles with drug addiction, which causes many problems. I understand that, as his mother, she tries to tolerate it, but he has already lost his own family and can spend months locked inside the house consuming harmful substances. When we arrived in Chiapas, we applied for political asylum and stayed there for a year while the process moved forward. We later moved to Tijuana, where we have now lived for two years. We are currently living in very limited conditions, as our income is not enough to cover all basic needs. LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team,

First of all, I would like to thank you for all the support you provide to our community and for considering us. I am a mother of four children. With my first partner, I had Hugo, who is now 19 and lives independently, and Lourdes, who is 16 and currently living with my mother (her grandmother), as we don’t have enough space in our home for her to live with us—this is one of the main reasons why I am requesting your support. Every time I speak with my daughter, she cries because she wants to live with me. I separated from her father due to domestic violence. Later, I began another relationship, and I had my daughter Dalia, whose father distanced himself as soon as he found out I was pregnant and has never taken responsibility. While working at a factory, I met my current husband, with whom I am now married and have a son named José Miguel. With great effort, we joined a savings program to make the down payment on a piece of land, and when our son was born, we left the factory to start a small clothing business at the street market, while my husband also does masonry work. Our income barely covers the land payments and food, so we are currently living in a small house built by my mother-in-law next to our lot. My elderly father, who has vision and hearing problems and needs special care, also lives with us. When my mother-in-law’s other children or relatives visit, they stay to sleep here as well, and honestly, it is an uncomfortable situation. I thank you in advance for your attention and for giving us the hope of having a home.

As a mother, my deepest desire is for my children to have a place where they are not afraid when it rains, where they feel protected and at peace. I sincerely thank you for the incredible work you do helping so many people. May God bless you abundantly.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY: Dear Homes of Hope team, warm greetings. I would like to share a little bit about my family. I have two sons: Bayron, who is in fifth grade, and Jesús, who is in preschool. My husband has a heart condition (ischemic cardiomyopathy); seven years ago, he suffered a heart attack and underwent his first catheterization, during which two stents were placed. Since then, he has had two more catheterizations, but unfortunately, his heart is now functioning at only 20%. We are currently undergoing medical evaluations to determine whether another treatment—or possibly a heart transplant—is an option. With his pension, we are only able to pay for rent, water, and electricity. I work at a factory, and in an effort to begin building our future, I applied for a Fonacot loan. However, we faced complications—such as an accident that left me unable to work for a month—so we ended up using the loan for household expenses and medications instead of construction. That is why we are reaching out to you, to request your support for a home. The place we are renting has already increased the rent once this year, and we have now been told it will go up again—a second time in the same year. We are deeply grateful for your attention and for the incredible work you do. Thank you so much.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team,

My name is Laura. In 2008, I was in the third year of middle school. My parents were working, and I was responsible for managing the house and caring for my two younger sisters. That same year, I met the man who is now my husband. He was 30 years old, and I was 15. We became friends, and after I finished school, my parents decided I should stop studying to take care of the home and my siblings full-time. I did so for several months, but the responsibility was overwhelming. In November, I began a relationship with my now-husband. Then, in December, I made the biggest decision of my life: I left my home. On December 20th, a rainy morning at 5 a.m., I walked away with a change of clothes and never returned. When he found out, he came looking for me. We talked and decided to stay together. Four months later, I became pregnant with our first daughter, Danna Caroll, who was born on October 5th, 2009. In 2011, we moved for the third time, to a house that belonged to my uncle. However, after he passed away, another woman claimed ownership of the property, and since then, it has been a constant struggle. In 2016, we were finally able to save enough to make a down payment on a piece of land. In 2017, I became pregnant with our second daughter, Camila. Over the years, the supposed owner of the house has harassed us, sent lawyers, and looked for ways to evict us. During the COVID pandemic, we nearly gave up, but instead, we decided to start a small metalworking business together. We’ve faced many ups and downs—especially due to her ongoing threats—but we’ve kept going. When I saw the Homes of Hope video, my heart leapt. I hesitated to reach out, afraid things would go wrong again. But I’m hoping we can achieve our dream: to live in a home of our own, in peace and security, where our daughters can grow up happy. We’ve been together for 17 years and we want to keep building our life as a family. I trust in God that you will be able to help us. Thank you very much.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

I am a single mother of four children. I separated from their father in October 2024 due to his infidelities. We used to live in a trailer located on my land, but part of it encroached onto the neighbor’s property. When we tried to move it, the trailer split in half, so we were forced to leave. We are now living in a borrowed house. During this time of transition, I have been praying a lot, believing and trusting in God. When I heard about Homes of Hope, I saw it as an answer to my prayers. I have been a Christian since childhood—God knows my heart and knows I didn’t want to separate from my children’s father. I still pray for him because I believe God desires families to stay together. I work at Casa de Luz in the nursery. Right now, the father of my children is in prison in the United States, so I am the sole provider for my household. I cover the land payments, household expenses, and my children’s school costs. This is why I have not been able to begin building a home. One of my children has ADHD. He goes to therapy and requires medication, which is very expensive. To cover these costs, I also work extra hours at the local market. My children and I have a little corner where they put up their drawings. We have been praying together for a new house and a car. We know that God’s timing is perfect. There is a verse that has accompanied me during this season: Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Thank you for taking the time to listen to my story.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY: Dear Homes of Hope team, first of all, thank you very much for the opportunity of this interview, as for my family it would be a great blessing to receive support with a home. At present, we are renting because we do not have the resources to build, due to household expenses such as groceries, our daughters’ school supplies, and the land payment, which leaves us with very little money. My husband lost his job at Coca-Cola and now works as a construction helper when needed. I contribute by selling snacks such as tostilocos, churros, gelatin, as well as earrings and necklaces, and on weekends I prepare food to sell; I also help my mother cover her own expenses. We know there are many families in need of a home, but for us it would be a great blessing, especially since our rent was recently increased and without stable work for my husband, this causes much anxiety. Our greatest dream is to have a safe and dignified home where our daughters can live with freedom and peace, without the fear of being evicted from one day to the next. We strive to instill values and good character in them, and although we do not yet have a home, we make sure they always have a roof over their heads and food on the table. At times things get difficult, but we remind them that God never lets go of our hands and is always present in our lives. I am very grateful for this opportunity, and even if we do not qualify, we are happy and thankful to be considered. Faith is believing in what is not yet seen, and its reward is to see what is believed. We will persevere until we reap what we have sown.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am a single mother of two girls: Leslie, who is about to start elementary school, and Ivanna, who will begin preschool. I have been raising them on my own for four years, and it has been very difficult. Ivanna was born prematurely, and her first two years were very challenging, as she required medication, neurological treatments, lung support, therapy, and rehabilitation. After separating from their father, I rented a room, but due to Ivanna’s special condition, she was not accepted into daycare. Thankfully, my grandmother and an aunt have supported me by caring for my daughters and allowing us to stay in a room in their home so I wouldn’t have to pay rent and could save. However, while my grandmother is a kind-hearted woman, my aunt suffers from schizophrenia and often yells at my daughters, which is not a healthy environment for them. I grew up with my grandmother since my mother was rarely home, and at 16, my aunt forced me out of the house, which makes the situation even more complicated. This is why I am requesting your support so that my daughters can have a place to grow in peace and stability. With my income, I can cover food, education, utilities, and the land payment. I trust that with your help we will be able to have a home where my daughters can grow up safely. I sincerely thank you for considering my request.
