LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, we have three children, and our youngest son has autism, blindness, and a mild intellectual disability. My first two children have the same father, and my youngest has a different father, but neither of them has taken responsibility for their children. The father of my first two children is currently homeless due to drug addiction, and with the father of my youngest son, it has been very difficult to receive child support. We went through mediation and reached an agreement, but he has not fulfilled it. I want to take legal action, but they require that my son be enrolled in school. Because of his condition, I am afraid and have not yet been able to enroll him, as he is still on a waiting list. I do not work because I have no one who can care for him, since he requires special attention and constant care. I met my current partner at a job, and through that work we were connected with a lawyer who helped us try to purchase a piece of land. Sadly, after four years, it turned out to be a fraud. We are currently in a legal process to obtain the property documents. In the meantime, we live with my parents, but there are 22 family members living in the same home, and everything easily becomes a conflict because there are too many people sharing one small space. That is why we would deeply appreciate any help you may be able to provide.

CHILDREN:

Keily - 9 years old

Lesly - 2 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am originally from Guerrero and have been living in Rosarito for three years. I met my partner through Facebook. At that time, I was coming out of a failed relationship and had a three-year-old daughter. In the beginning, everything felt wonderful—he seemed like the perfect man, so we decided to move in together. We stayed at his mother’s house, but suddenly he began to change. He became very jealous, checking my phone and even my clothes. Later, I found drugs in his clothing. He told me they belonged to a friend and that he was just holding them for him, but eventually I discovered that he was using crystal meth. When I confronted him about lying, he admitted it and said he used drugs because he felt sad about not being able to see his son, who lives in the United States. As time passed, his jealousy became worse, and at night he would not let me sleep because of constant accusations and arguments, claiming I was seeing other men. I became afraid and decided to leave him and move in with my parents. Almost every day he would call me to insult me and make me feel terrible. Thank God, his family eventually admitted him into a rehabilitation center, and afterward he contacted me again, but this time he was different. We stayed in touch, trying to rebuild our relationship, and we decided to give each other a second chance. We have now been together for three years, and he has remained drug-free. We currently live in a small trailer that his employer lends him because rent is very expensive. The difficult part is that he is the only one working. He starts at 6 a.m. and often has no set time to finish, even working Sundays, because he feels obligated since they are allowing us to stay there. Thank God, we were able to purchase a piece of land and have already started building a small room. We hope to move there soon so our children can have a place to play. Having a home of our own would truly be a blessing.

FAMILY INFORMATION

MOTHER: Kitsia

Age: 30 years old

Job: Cook

Salary weekly: $172 US

CHILDREN:

Lourdes - 7 years old

Sofia - 9 years old

Renata - 2 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Home, I want to thank you for allowing me to come this far in the process, because your work is truly precious. I was born in Sinaloa, and my mother brought me to Tijuana when I was very young. My family situation was very difficult. My father was extremely abusive toward my mother, and he would physically hurt both of us. I was so young that I did not even understand what was happening or know what to do. One day, after my mother ended up in the hospital because of the abuse, she decided to separate from him. We began renting small places to live until my father gave us a piece of land, and that is where I spent much of my life selling burritos, candy, and snacks to survive. I am the oldest of four siblings, and sadly, despite everything I lived through as a child, I ended up in a similar relationship myself. When I became pregnant, the father of my baby gave me chocolates and flowers and promised that eventually we would have a home together and be a family. I accepted because I was afraid of being abandoned. He kept me locked inside the house for three months, and the only thing I had to eat was a box of chocolates he had given me. He would not buy food because he drank heavily, and I normalized his behavior because, compared to my childhood, at least there were no physical beatings. One day, after he became completely drunk, I managed to escape and went to ask my father for help. There, I began to recover and rebuild my life. I worked very hard to make sure my daughter never lacked anything. I was offered a job at a large factory, and there I met a man who seemed to promise me the world. I became pregnant again, and for five years everything seemed perfect. Then he began to change. One day I found drugs in his clothes, and when I confronted him, he hit me. I did not want to go through the same cycle of violence again, so I gathered my things, took my children, and went to live with my mother. For a year we slept in her living room, but eventually we had problems and she asked us to leave. While wandering without a place to go, by the grace of God, He sent me a friend who welcomed us into her home. We slept there for three months until I was finally able to rent a place of our own. The father of my daughters found out where we were living and began showing up. One day he arrived under the influence of drugs, broke doors, screamed horrible things, and tried to hit me, but my daughters stood in front of me to protect me. The owners of the apartments managed to force him out, but I had to pay for all the damages—two years of work lost because of that incident. When my father passed away, he left me a piece of land where we lived for a while, but it was extremely cold for the girls, and during the winter they ended up in the hospital. I eventually returned to live with my mother, but our relationship is not very good, so living this way day after day has been very difficult. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

FAMILY INFORMATION

MOTHER: Yolanda

Age: 31 years old

Salary weekly: $102 US

CHILDREN:

Katherine - 4 years old

Yuritzi - 1 year old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, At this moment, my family and I are going through a very difficult situation because our home was built with pieces of wood, the roof leaks when it rains, and the cold comes in through the gaps in the walls. Living this way is very hard. I am a single mother and do not have the financial resources to replace the roof, as I live day by day. My mother lives with me and my two daughters, and I am the provider for our household. I earn a living by selling candy, frozen treats, and homemade food. What I make only covers the basics—water delivered by truck, electricity, and groceries. I try to limit expenses and make the money stretch, but unexpected things always happen, especially illnesses. Despite all these challenges, I do not lose hope that one day God will make my dream come true: to have a safe and dignified home for my family. Thank you very much for your kindness and attention.

FAMILY INFORMATION

MOTHER: Ivette

Age: 30 years old

Job: Street vendor

Salary weekly: $91 US

CHILDREN:

Alberto - 11 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, as a family, we are three people originally from the state of Sinaloa, and all our lives we have worked selling beach items. Since I was very young, my four siblings and I had to work to help our parents. After school, my mother would take us to sell seasonal candy, chewing gum, chips, and mangoes with chili to help cover family expenses. My mother braided hair and sometimes made tamales, while my father made handmade bracelets and, during the low season, worked in construction. Despite the difficulties we faced, our parents raised us with values such as hard work, honesty, unity, and love for family. Eventually, my parents decided to move to Tijuana in search of a better life. As we grew older, each of my siblings started their own families. Unfortunately, the father of my son turned out to be irresponsible and unwilling to work, and when our son was one year old, he abandoned us. I continued working just as I had since childhood and have done everything possible to provide for my son, always with the support of my parents, who cared for him while I worked. Years later, I met my current husband, who had recently arrived from Oaxaca. He also sells items at the beach and is very hardworking; in his free time, he sings as a musician. We got married two years ago and, through much sacrifice and many tears, were able to purchase our piece of land. That is why we sincerely hope for your support. We are people who believe in working hard and finding ways to move forward together as a family. We dream of having a place of our own where we can grow old together and watch our son grow up. Thank you very much.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope, I am a single mother of 3 kids. I separated from their father more than five years ago due to the abuse and violence he inflicted on me, as he struggled with drug use and was very aggressive. I did not want my children to grow up in that environment, so I moved back into my parents’ home. They have always supported me; in fact, my father gave me a job in his carpentry workshop at home, which allows me to work while taking care of my children. Previously, I worked night shifts in a factory, but it was very exhausting. I would love to have a home of my own, as there are often conflicts due to the limited space—my sister and her children also live with us, so there are many children and not enough room. Having our own home would give us our own space and allow us to live without feeling like a burden. Unfortunately, I do not have the financial means to build a house on my own, as I must cover expenses such as clothing, shoes, utilities, and schooling. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Dear Homes of Hope team, we are reaching out to you to ask for your help and the blessing of receiving a small home. I do so with my heart in my hands, desperate to provide my children with a place where they can grow up surrounded by love, faith, and hope. Currently, we live in a very small borrowed room. We do not have the financial resources to build, and these past years have been very difficult. I am deeply grateful for the room we are living in now, but there is simply not enough space for the children to grow and develop properly. We had always dreamed of purchasing a piece of land, but when our youngest baby arrived, life became even more complicated. By God’s grace, we finally managed to acquire a small lot. However, my husband’s work has slowed down significantly, though we continue to hold on to hope that we may be blessed through your support. Our children are attending school, but the people lending us this place have now asked us to leave, and we do not know what to do. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Mayra - 9 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, my family is made up of my 13-year-old daughter, my 75-year-old disabled mother, and myself. We are originally from a small town in the mountains of Chiapas. I earn a living selling items at the local swap meet in our neighborhood. We moved to Tijuana searching for better opportunities because I suffered physical and psychological abuse from my daughter’s father, who was very controlling and machista. That is why I decided to flee from him. We left in secret and began a peaceful new life here. When my father passed away, I brought my mother to live with us. She helps me care for my daughter, although her health has become more complicated due to diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and the fact that she has now lost her eyesight. We try to stay positive and continue moving forward together as the three of us. I used to work in a factory, but when my mother’s health worsened, I resigned, and with my severance pay I invested in purchasing a piece of land with the dream of having something of our own and no longer paying rent. Sadly, I later developed fibromyalgia, which led to rheumatoid arthritis, making work very difficult. My doctor advised me to avoid stress, so I decided to take a trip to Chiapas for a short break. It turned out to be my worst mistake. My daughter met her father there, and his family told her that he had rejected her because she was a girl and he had wanted a son. She confronted him about abandoning her, and the disappointment affected her deeply. She began struggling with depression, anxiety, and rebellion. Now I must pay for specialists because the public hospital was unable to help her, and the medications are very expensive. Because of all these circumstances, I have not been able to save enough to build our little home. That is why I decided to reach out to you. You have given me a ray of hope, and I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read my story.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope, our oldest son is currently in his first year of high school, and our daughter is in third grade. She was born with hip dysplasia and has had to undergo several surgeries because of it. We are originally from Michoacán, but three years ago we moved to Tijuana due to the wave of violence in our hometown, as well as the fact that cartels were recruiting young people, and we did not want that for our son. We arrived with great hope of achieving a better quality of life and having a home as a family. At first, we lived with my husband’s aunt while he found work, but due to family conflicts, we had to look for a place to rent. This has been one of the most difficult challenges, as rent is very expensive and often landlords ask you to leave on short notice. Transportation is also complicated, as the schools are usually far from where we live. I have knee problems due to a fractured growth cartilage, but I do not mind as long as my children can continue their education. The housing situation led us to purchase a piece of land, and to help with expenses, I started selling at the swap meet. We want a place we can truly call home, where we will not have to keep moving from one place to another. That is why we are asking for your support, as our resources limit our ability to achieve this on our own. May God continue to bless you, and thank you in advance.

It was nice at the beginning, but little by little we started to feel like a burden. I prayed to God to give me another opportunity in life, to be happy. I found a job and was able to provide food and clothing for my daughters. I have always had the desire to have a place of our own where my daughters can feel safe, protected, and have their own space. One day I ran into Jacinto, someone I knew from back home, and after talking we decided to start seeing each other. He was very kind to my daughters, and after a few months we decided to live together. We began to slowly acquire things like a stove, always keeping our faith. Then the opportunity came to buy a piece of land, and later I saw a story about you, about how you build homes. I was overwhelmed with joy. Thank you for considering us.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I was born in Oaxaca, where I lived only with my mother, as she separated from my father due to domestic violence. When I was three years old, we moved to the United States, where I studied, but at the age of twelve I began working to help my mother, since my father never supported us. As a young person, I made many mistakes and poor decisions, which led to me being incarcerated, and at nineteen I was deported. At twenty-one, I decided to start a family; we were together for five years, but it did not work out, so we separated in order to provide a healthier environment for our children. To this day, my children are my priority and take up all my time. Their mother is now with someone else, and my children did not feel comfortable there because they were mistreated, so they now live with me. It has not been easy, as we live in a small, deteriorated trailer. I would like to provide them with something more comfortable, safe, and stable, which is why I purchased a piece of land. Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my situation. Whatever happens, I trust that it is part of God’s plan.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, We are originally from Morelia, Michoacán, where we rented a home and ran a small food business, but my partner became ill and that consumed all of our savings. In that situation, an aunt in Tijuana told us she would help us if we moved here, but when we arrived, things were very different—we were treated like servants, doing household chores and caring for her grandmother. My husband eventually found a job as a driver at AutoZone, and we began the process of purchasing a piece of land so we could live in peace. We left my aunt’s home and started renting, but we were soon asked to leave. A neighbor offered us space in his garage to build a small room, but in the end, he took advantage of us and kept our belongings. Later, family members lent us a trailer, which we placed on our land, but it is not large enough for all of us. In the midst of all this, God showed us grace through a neighbor who allowed us to use a room and her bathroom, and even the man who had taken our things has returned some items, including a water tank and a container. During this time, one of our children suffered a head injury from a fall, and the medical care was very expensive, using up the little savings we had. Despite everything, we believe God is great and has placed you in our path so we might be considered for a Casa de Esperanza. We are deeply grateful.

Dear Homes of Hope team, it is a pleasure to greet you. We were both born in Tijuana, and in 2016 I met my husband and we began our relationship when we were 15 and 17 years old. Shortly after, my parents had differences and decided to separate. My mother later entered into another relationship with someone I never got along with, and he eventually forced me to leave the house. My father is not a bad person, but he struggles with alcoholism and is not stable. My boyfriend spoke with his family, and they gave me the opportunity to live with them, even though the space was very small. After three months, we were lent a house, but everything was far away, and we went through many hardships while I was still studying. Little by little, we were able to acquire some basic things, and eventually the owner of the house began charging us rent, which we continue to pay to this day. We also had the opportunity to purchase a piece of land, which we are paying for together. With the arrival of our daughter Allison, we became stronger—she is the light that was missing in our lives. That is why we are asking for a home, so she can have her own space, a place where she can grow up and cherish many memories. We also want to thank you for the great blessings and efforts you make every day for families like ours.

We grew tired of constantly relocating, and our belongings were often damaged, so we decided to purchase a piece of land to finally have some stability. We began buying second-hand wood to build small rooms, but we became ill, and all our savings were spent on medical expenses. We were only able to build one small room, which is where we currently live; we have just one bed where my wife and daughter sleep, and I use a mat on the floor. Due to all the moving, our daughter now attends an open school on weekends because we did not have a stable place to enroll her. Despite everything, we continue to serve in our church—my daughter is part of the tambourine ministry, and we are trying to afford her uniform. I am from Veracruz and she is from Chiapas, we met here in Tijuana, to where we both moved looking for a better life. We were renting rooms in the same property, we started with a good friendship and little by little, getting to know each other decided to live together. She was living there with her 4 little kids. Sadly, I have developed a permanent hearing disability, which prevents me from working in a formal job. The house where we currently live is in very poor condition, as it is made of old wood and we have not been able to repair it; any help you could provide would be a great blessing. María previously worked in a factory but was laid off due to staff cuts. A neighbor later told her about a job at YWAM, and she started working there, but it is very far from our home, and getting there is difficult since she does not have a car and has to rely on rides every day to make it to work.

I was born in Tijuana; one of my brothers was killed seven years ago, and another is currently in prison. My parents separated because my father struggled with drug addiction, and during that time we stopped going to church, which led me to blame God for everything, although later I came to understand that this is not how God works. Some time later, my mother met someone else and we moved into his home, where I met the father of my daughter. When I told him I was pregnant, he refused to take responsibility and wanted me to have an abortion, but I chose not to. Just days before giving birth, my stepfather forced me out of the house, and my mother did not help me, so an aunt allowed me to stay with her. Shortly after my daughter was born, I rented a small room so I would not have to depend on others. About a year later, my grandmother began having problems with my grandfather, and since I needed someone to help care for my daughter so I could continue working, we moved in together. I later changed jobs to work at a gas station, and little by little we saved for the down payment on a piece of land. At that time, my father was doing better and helped me build a small room. We are grateful to have something of our own, to no longer pay rent, and to provide stability for my daughter, but we have not been able to build a proper home. Thank you for this opportunity.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am here respectfully requesting your support to obtain a dignified home for my family and me. We are currently living in unsafe and inadequate conditions and are at risk of being evicted. We are originally from the coast of Oaxaca, but due to financial hardship we came here in search of a better future. On our way, we first went to Michoacán, but the presence of organized crime made it very difficult to stay. When we heard about the possibility of seeking asylum, we decided to come to Tijuana, but shortly after arriving, the asylum process was closed. My husband found work through an uncle, but the pay is very low, and I stayed home caring for our baby, who still needed milk and diapers, while also being pregnant with our second child. We were living with my aunt, but suddenly she asked us to leave. We then stayed with a friend, feeling uncertain and overwhelmed, not knowing what to do, but asking God for strength to keep going. My husband does not have formal education, so he can only find work in construction, and I began selling homemade desserts to help support us. With great faith in God, we were able to acquire a piece of land and have been making monthly payments, although it has been very difficult. We trust that God has plans for us even when we cannot see them, and we believe in His greatness. I kindly ask you to consider our case so that my children may have a place they can call “our home.” Thank you for taking the time to read our letter, and may God bless you.
