LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, our family is very happy because soon we will be six, as we have a baby on the way. We already own a piece of land, but we have not been able to build on it. We are originally from Puebla, from a small town called San Marcos Tlacoyalco, and we left in search of a better life and better opportunities for our children. Arriving here gave us hope, but we had to start from nothing—finding a job, a place to live, and meeting rental requirements was not easy. Little by little, we managed to save enough to purchase our land. In 2025, I, Carlos, had to undergo spine surgery, which made our goal even more difficult to achieve, as I was unable to work for some time and instead of saving, we began to accumulate debt. Gradually, we have been moving forward, and now we place our hope in God that we may be able to build a home with your support. We are deeply grateful for the hope you have given us to one day have a place where our children can play and feel happy.

FAMILY INFORMATION

MOTHER: Mayra

Age: 38 years old

Job: community Teacher

Salary weekly: $211 US

CHILDREN:

Angel - 6 years old

Reyna - 5 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am a single mother of two wonderful children. I was born in the state of Guerrero; my parents are illiterate, but they made sure my siblings and I received an education. After finishing high school, I decided not to continue studying so I could help with household expenses, as my father had a small shaved ice business, but because it rains a lot there, he sometimes went days without being able to work. Later, my older sister moved to Baja California, and once she was settled, she encouraged me to come as well. It was painful to leave my home, even though I had experienced a childhood marked by physical and emotional violence that left deep scars. I arrived at age 14 to live with an aunt, but her trailer was very small, so my sister and I moved out to rent and also to support our family back in the south. At one of my jobs, I met Miguel, who became the father of my children. I stayed with him for years despite experiencing hardship, hunger, and mistreatment, which I believe was due to the trauma from my childhood. He did not work and became addicted to drugs, while I covered all household expenses and continued supporting my family in Guerrero. His family convinced us to move into a room at their home to avoid paying rent, but later Miguel left rehab, became involved with another woman, and forced me out while I was pregnant and caring for my young child. By God’s grace, a family took me in and supported me. I began selling food and drinks, and during that time I made a promise to myself to achieve my goals—to have a home for my children and a job that would allow me to be close to them, even if we did not have luxuries. Little by little, I have been rebuilding my life. I filed a legal case against Miguel, and now we have shared custody, with him caring for the children on weekends. Through great effort, I was able to save for a down payment on land, and with the help of friends, we built a small wooden room with a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. We live in a tight space, but in peace. I kindly ask for your support to help us have a home where my children can have more space and we can continue living in peace. I place everything in God’s hands. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, we are originally from the state of Guerrero, and we decided to come to Tijuana in search of a better quality of life. I was able to find work quickly, but it was not easy for my two daughters. After some time, both of them found partners, and my wife and I were left with the children who were still studying, which made things very difficult due to the many expenses. Later, both of my daughters had their babies and faced challenges, so they returned to live with us. Because of this, we decided to purchase a piece of land, but we have not been able to build on it yet. I work as a construction laborer, and during the rainy season work becomes very scarce, so we try to save for those times in order to cover rent and continue paying for the land. That is why we are asking for your support. Thank you for everything.

Salary weekly: $211 US

FATHER: Abad

Age: 35 years old

Job: Factory worker

Salary weekly: $114 US

CHILDREN:

Nicole - 10 years old

Dana - 4 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, blessings to everyone who collaborates with Casas de Esperanza. We are an extended family—my husband and our two daughters, along with my mother and two of her grandchildren, Kevin and Aitana. We currently rent here in Tijuana, where we came due to the violence in our home state of Guerrero. My husband and I arrived 10 years ago when violence increased in Acapulco and many businesses had to close. We gathered what we could for bus fare, and a family gave us shelter in a small room. We arrived with nothing, only two changes of clothes and a diaper bag, but with a strong desire to move forward. Thank God, Abad quickly found work, and little by little we began to get ahead. The following year, my mother and siblings also came, and we rented a small house together. One of my brothers encouraged me to apply for a job at a school, and despite my fears and insecurities, I did—it did not pay much, but I gained experience. Later, I found another job at a school much closer to home, always supported by my mother who helps care for my children. Seven years ago, my brother’s wife left, so my mother took on the responsibility of raising my nephews. Family life is not always easy, as many of us live together, but we understand that to move forward we must strive to live in peace. Abad supports us unconditionally, although he carries a heavy emotional burden from the many family losses he has experienced in recent years—his grandfather, father, brother, and cousin. We have never owned a home, but we were able to purchase a piece of land. We live day to day without luxuries, but we dream of building something for our daughters. We have great hope in this process and in God’s will. Thank you for everything.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, my husband is originally from Chiapas, and from a very young age he had to work alongside his father, who is a construction worker. After finishing high school and facing many challenges, he decided to move to Tijuana, which is where we met. I already had two daughters from a previous relationship that did not work out. We decided to start a new family, and at that time I was renting a small room in poor condition, so we began looking for something better. I became pregnant again, and now we have three beautiful daughters. We took a risk and began making payments on a piece of land so we could provide stability for our girls—a place they can call their own, a home where they feel safe. Currently, we are living on our land, enduring cold weather and rain, but we remain united and full of faith, determined not to give up. My husband works as a delivery driver with long hours to support our family, and I clean private homes, bringing my three-year-old daughter with me. That is why I am reaching out to you, and I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration.

Yael - 11 years old

Liam - 4 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am originally from Veracruz & arrived in Tijuana in 2016; I was coming out of a difficult relationship and had my two-year-old son with me. I went to live at my father’s house while I looked for work, but it was difficult because I was underage. Later, I was lent a house, but with the expenses of diapers and milk, I could not afford to furnish it. Things were going well until my son became ill with salmonella. In 2018, my friend and I began a relationship, and although our family story has not been easy, it has been marked by resilience. We tried to have a baby, but due to ovarian cysts I was unable to, until in 2020 we were blessed with our daughter after a high-risk pregnancy. Sadly, shortly after, we went through a deep crisis caused by a domestic accident that led to legal issues and a family separation, which resulted in depression and addiction problems that affected my health. Today, I write this letter from a completely different place thanks to a rehabilitation process and the unconditional support of my family. I have been sober for four years, and during this time my husband and I have remained united, working hard to provide a safe and healthy environment for our children. Thank God, we both now have stable jobs. Recently, we discovered that our eldest son has hearing problems and we are waiting for surgery. I also have fibroids but have not been able to undergo surgery due to a lack of donors, and I cannot miss work because our income is just enough to get by. Additionally, the house we were renting was sold, and we were asked to leave on short notice, so we had to build a small structure on our land, but it is not enough for the five of us to live comfortably. Our goal is to build a proper room for our children so they can have their own space. That is why we are reaching out to you, to ask if it would be possible for you to support us through your beautiful housing project.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I am originally from Chiapas, but my grandparents brought us to Tijuana when I was three years old, so I feel that this is truly my home. I never knew my father, and my mother passed away when I was six years old. I have four children of different ages, and my partner is a hardworking man with a kind heart who provides for our family. Our children are currently studying, except for our baby. This is my second letter; I had never written something like this before, but today I asked God for help. I feel nervous, but also full of faith and hope. Since June 2024, we have been living on our land after leaving my in-laws’ house with broken hearts because we were asked to leave—my sisters-in-law did not want to hear the normal noise that children make. At first, we lived in our car, then we were lent a small metal house that was very cold, and later a friend blessed us with a small wooden structure. We truly hope to qualify for your support.

Bruno - 13 years old

Andrew - 12 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, first of all, I thank God for my family, for our health, and for the support we have received during the difficult times we have gone through. I am originally from Mexico City, from a low-income background but with strong Christian values. At 18, I moved to Tijuana, where I have tried to live a healthy life. At 34, I began a relationship with the mother of my children. Over time, I realized that my eldest son was not biologically mine, but I never said anything because my family means everything to me. Later on, my partner began using drugs, and we went through very difficult times—the hardest of my life—especially as my son Andrew became ill with asthma. The little money we had went toward his medications and my partner’s substance abuse. Eventually, she left home and only returned when she needed money; when I refused, she began to threaten me, so I decided to return to Mexico City. There, we experienced hunger, and since I had no one to help care for my children, I had to leave them alone at times, which forced them to become responsible and mature at a young age. After some time, their mother reached out to them (without them knowing what had happened before), and we decided to return to Tijuana. Over the past three years, we have managed to save enough for a down payment, as our dream is to have our own home. A friend told us about your organization, and we are very excited about the possibility of being part of this blessing. We are currently living in a trailer because rent is very expensive. Thank you for giving us hope.

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, my name is Diana, and I am originally from Oaxaca. I arrived in Tijuana in 2017 seeking better opportunities after separating from my partner when I was three months pregnant due to abuse. I chose to move forward on my own, leaving my daughter in the care of my mother, who lovingly supported me. For six years, my mother cared for my daughter in our hometown while I worked as a domestic employee, sending them money. In 2021, with the help of some friends, I was able to purchase a piece of land; however, around the same time my mother was diagnosed with diabetes, and my siblings asked me to bring my daughter to live with me because my mother could no longer care for her. When my daughter came to Tijuana, I lost my steady job so I could take care of her. With my severance pay, I was able to build a septic system and a water cistern on the land. Some friends kindly rent me a small house next to my property, but now my income only covers the woman who cares for my daughter, the rent, and our daily food. It would be an immense blessing to have the opportunity to build a Casa de Esperanza and finally have a safe place of our own.

Dear Homes of Hope team, first, I would like to thank you for what God allows you to do, and may He bless you always. I have three children—one who is 21, another who is 20, and my youngest who is 10 years old. I do not have a stable job; I sell items at the swap meet and sometimes take orders for tamales. My husband is my greatest support, but he has a stomach hernia, and there are days when he is unable to work because of the pain he endures. We continue moving forward hand in hand with God. During the rainy season, it becomes very difficult because we have to place buckets everywhere to catch the leaks, and we fear the strong winds; only the Lord gives us the strength to keep going. Despite the hardships we have faced in recent years, we hold onto the hope of having a dignified roof over our heads. My heart is filled with faith and hope in God, and I pray that He never lets go of my hand.

Dear Homes of Hope, my name is David, and I live with my two children. When I was younger, I decided to come to Tijuana in search of a better future, and that is where I met the mother of my children. Sadly, she passed away, and since then I have continued fighting to give my children the best life possible while also trying to spend as much time with them as I can—I take them to school, cook for them, and wash their clothes. My son Dilan was born with a heart murmur, and he underwent a catheterization procedure to address the issue. This situation has been very draining both emotionally and financially, and the next step will be open-heart surgery. I have faith in God that everything will go well. Because of all this, it has not been possible for me to build a home for my children. I know that God is great and that there are people like you who help those of us in need. Thank you very much.

Dear Homes of Hope, my family has gone through many hardships. My husband and I have never stopped working to meet our daily expenses. Our son was born very weak, and we thought he might not survive, but thanks to God, he did. When he was one year old, he fell from a second floor and was in very critical condition, but he survived. My husband works as a construction helper, and one day he was struck by lightning during a storm; since then, he suffers from seizures and requires ongoing treatment. In addition, my brother became ill and passed away. My mother developed cancerous cysts and later suffered a ruptured appendix. My father-in-law recently lost sight in one eye due to a retinal rupture. All of these situations have brought significant medical and family expenses, which is why we have not been able to save enough to build a home. We currently live in a small room because rent is very expensive. We kindly ask for your support to help us build a home on our land. We continued making payments on our land because we did not want to give up on our dream, but we began to notice that our child was developing differently—he was not gaining weight and showed little movement. After multiple doctor visits, he was diagnosed with autism. Since then, everything has been put on hold due to the costs of therapies and medications. Dear Homes of Hope team, I don’t know how to begin this letter; I feel nervous and at the same time excited about this ray of hope that has come into our family. We are people who struggle day by day, seeking to have a place where our children can sleep safely. Because of life circumstances and the current economic situation, we have not been able to have our own home. We are from Sinaloa and have rented in different places. In order to obtain our land, we sold everything we had and gathered several weeks of our wages to use as a down payment. Since then, we have had nothing left and have struggled greatly, living day to day. We do not have anyone to help us; not even the government has selected us for support. Perhaps because we appear clean and kind, they think we are not in need, not knowing that as parents we often go to work without even having eaten. You have brought a light of hope into our lives, and for that we are deeply grateful.

Dear Homes of Hope team, we respectfully reach out to you with hope for support in obtaining a new home. We are a low-income family in a vulnerable situation, as our current shelter is not safe. We deeply desire to provide something stable for our family, because we understand that a home is more than just a roof. We learned about your organization and how you help families like ours achieve the dream of having a safe place to live. We have owned our land for some time, but we have not been able to build due to financial limitations. Our children are in middle school and high school, which brings significant educational expenses, in addition to household costs and land payments, and only my husband is currently working. I stay home to care for our children; I used to bake bread to contribute, but I injured my arm and have not been able to continue. At this time, we have been working on cleaning our land, hoping one day to build a home where we can live without worrying about leaks or the burden of monthly rent. We place this dream in your hands and in God’s hands. Thank you for your time and for reading our story.

Brianna - 17 years old

LETTER FROM THE FAMILY:

Dear Homes of Hope team, I send you a cordial greeting and respectfully share a little of our story, which has been difficult and complicated. When I was 14 years old, my mother arranged for me to marry an older man, as it was the custom in our town. I did not understand what was happening and endured humiliation and abuse, but when my first daughter was born, I no longer felt so alone. The mistreatment continued, and by the time my second daughter was born, I was already an adult and understood more clearly what was happening. I gathered the courage to leave because I did not want my daughters to go through the same suffering I had experienced, not knowing at that time that I was already pregnant with my third daughter. I arrived in Tijuana without even having a place to sleep, but someone kindly opened the doors of their home to me. I found a job and rented a small apartment, and for a while I felt very happy, but some neighbors tried to harass my daughters and me, so I had to leave and look for another place to live. It was very difficult because rent is expensive, and the person who was caring for my daughters mistreated them; my oldest daughter ended up with a broken femur, and the doctor said it was unusual for that bone to break in that way. She would not speak about what happened and only cried. Because of this, I left my factory job and began working independently so I could care for my daughters myself. My greatest dream is to have a safe and stable place for us to live. It took me three years to save enough for the down payment on our land, and although we are moving forward little by little toward that dream, we are currently living in an apartment that turned out to be rented to us by someone who was not the actual owner, so now that the real owners have returned, we must leave. God is good, and we believe He placed you in our path at just the right moment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have tried very hard to achieve this on my own, but I have not been able to because of the land payments and the daily living expenses. We are currently living in a house that was lent to us, but during the rainy season everything gets wet because water comes inside, and when the wind is strong it becomes very cold. I would be deeply grateful for your help from the bottom of my heart.
